B&O Stands In with BeoPlay V1 LED TV

By Enid Burns

Bang & Olufsen is filling in its new B&O PLAY line with the BeoPlay V1 LED TV. The V1 line has two sizes, a 32-inch and 40-inch set that each come in black or white. The high-definition TV set is built to display content from several sources such as the internet and Apple TV.

Both the 32-inch and 40-inch sets have a built-in wire stand that adjusts to let the V1 set stand off the ground, sit on a table, mount to the wall or even hang from the ceiling. Metal rods are secured into position with hex screws to orient the TV for the best viewing location.

The standalone V1 works without extra speakers and subwoofer by providing B&O's proprietary Class D ICEpower amps to power the speakers. If you do want to go for surround sound, B&O Play provides an integrated 5.1 surround module with speaker and subwoofer connections. Turn the set on and it detects the type of content on the screen to automatically optimize the playback for the best sound performance. That means when you're watching videos on YouTube, the V1 set enhances the sound to adjust for the sonic limitations of that platform.

Adapting to audio and video content and the versatile adjustable stand are just two ways the BeoPlay V1 set works to fit into the home. "BeoPlay V1 has been designed by studying the way people use televisions in their homes," Tue Mandoni, CEO of Bang & Olufsen said in a statement. "We want it to fit into people's lifestyles - so they don't have to fit their lives around a television."

Content source is important to the BeoPlay V1 set, and it automatically detects and configures the source such as a connected set-top box, gaming console, Blu-ray player, Apple TV, NAS server or hard drive. An integrated media browser makes it easy to view photos or listen to music from a USB drive or NAS server.

Scandanavian designer Anders Hermansen designed the BeoPlay V1. Other projects from Hermansen for Bang & Olufsen include BeoSound 5 digital audio player; Earset 3 earbud headphones; and the BeLab 2000 loudspeaker in the Beolink line.

Bang & Olufsen will make the BeoPlay V1 LED TV available in its showrooms by the end of this month (May, 2012). The set is available in 32-inch and 40-inch sizes with prices starting at $3249.
