Apple's iPhone 4 is Coming to Verizon... No, Really

By Rachel Cericola

Did you hear something yesterday? That was Verizon Wireless customers breathing a collective sigh of relief. After years of waiting, watching, and being extremely envious, Apple and Verizon announced that the iPhone 4 would be available to the Verizon Wireless customers starting February 10, 2011.

Often imitated, but never quite duplicated, the iPhone is one of the fastest selling electronic devices of all time. To date, it's been an exclusive for rival carrier AT&T.

Aside from the Retina, high-resolution display, the iPhone 4 also includes FaceTime, for on-the-go video calling. Verizon Wireless will also include a new feature called Personal Hotspot, which allows customers to use the device to connect up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices. Other features include a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, HD video recording, Apple's A4 chip, and iOS4.

Of course, one of the biggest perks is access to Apple's App Store. Currently, the App Store offers approximately 300,000 different apps for a variety of interests, including business, entertainment, news, sports, weather, reference, and gaming.

"We are pleased to introduce millions of wireless users to the industry leading iPhone 4 on the nation's most reliable network," said Lowell McAdam, president and chief operating officer of Verizon. "This is an important step for the industry as two great companies join forces to give wireless customers one of the most important technological additions to the mobile landscape this century."

Existing Verizon Wireless customers can pre-order the iPhone online, starting February 3. It will also be available through Verizon Wireless Communications Stores, Apple retail stores, authorized resellers, and at the Apple Store. The 16GB model will carry a suggested retail price of $199.99, with the 32GB going for $299.99. Both of those prices require a two-year service contract.
