Aperion Untethers Audio with Zona Wireless Speaker System

By Rachel Cericola

It would be nice if speaker installations were easy. Of course, some are way easier than others. That's one of the goals behind Aperion Audio's new Zona Wireless Surround Speaker System.

The direct-to-consumer company designed the Zona system with an easy installation in mind. If you don't have the time, skill or space to run wires, this system makes it extremely easy to have good sound without the cable clutter. It's also a great way to add rear sound (or more sound!) into your A/V mix, or give an extra boost to your computer setup.

The Zona system comes with a compact transmitter and two two-way speakers with tuned port and built-in wireless receivers. Connect the transmitter to the surround pre-out jacks on your receiver and the speakers to an outlet. The transmitter works in almost scenario, boasting uncompressed 16 bit/48 kHz CD-quality audio up to 150 feet away.

However, Aperion isn't just concerned with an easy install. They also want to give the people what they want.

"About one out of every four people we consult with asks if we make wireless surround speakers," says Jason Hicks, home theater guru at Aperion Audio. "Until now, we didn't have a solution. We would've happily recommended other existing products, but they typically suffer from poor fidelity, unreliable connections or complexity, and that wouldn't be acceptable for our customers. I'm excited that our product team has come up with a self-contained, high-end wireless system that lets home theater enthusiasts add surround sound wherever they want-no matter who manufactured their speaker system."

Aperion is taking orders now for the Zona, which is priced at $499. Expect the system to start shipping on October 25, 2010.
