A 55-inch OLED TV for Under $2,500? Yes, Really.

By Rachel Cericola

Remember when OLED TVs were first introduced and they seemed like an unattainable dream? A screen so thin it could bend. Deep, inky blacks. Richly saturated colors. Just a few years ago, Sony was selling a tiny little 11-inch diagonal OLED TV for $ 2499. Today, you can buy an OLED TV with a screen that's literally 25 times the size of that one for the exact same price.

Amazon is currently selling the LG 55-inch 55EC9300 1080p 3D Curved OLED TV for a mere $2,499. No, the comma isn't in the wrong place and this isn't some kind of misprint. The retailer is slashing 38 percent off LG's list price, which means you can save $1,500 on this gorgeous OLED TV -- and have it delivered to your front door absolutely free.

OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) is a new TV technology that differs from LED/LCD sets in that OLED is "self-emissive." It doesn't need a back light because every single pixel lights up and can be turned off entirely when the picture requires it. This gives OLED TVs their stunning black levels and excellent contrast.

This particular OLED TV is not a 4K "Ultra HD" TV, but the 55EC9300 does have a full HD 1080p image with a couple of million of those fancy OLED self-illuminating pixels. The set also has LG's own "4-Color Pixel" technology, which uses white OLED elements combined with red, green and blue filters to create a wide spectrum of colors.

Measuring just 0.17 inch at its thinnest point, the 55EC9300 also has a curved screen, which wraps you up in the image for a more immersive viewing experience -- from just about every angle. Other features include LG's webOS smart TV platform with LG Recommendations, LG's signature Magic Remote, Cinema 3D features, and Dual Play for head-to-head gaming on one screen.

In case you need further convincing, know that this model tied for first place in the 2014 Value Electronics TV Shootout (along with the Samsung F8500 plasma). The TV has also received a number of other glowing reviews, mostly notably from CNET's David Katzmaier, who titled his review, "OLED TV: Best. Picture. Ever."

Don't take too much time reading reviews and weighing your options; there's no word on how long Amazon is planning to offer this TV at this discount. Just know that when you buy it, you need to order directly from Amazon and not one of the retailer's third-party merchants. Amazon is offering this discounted price, the free shipping, and even Enhanced Delivery. Also, this TV is eligible for Amazon's TV Low Price Guarantee, which means if you can find this exact TV for less within 14 days of the ship date from an authorized dealer, the retailer will refund you the difference in price. Enjoy!
