With studios switching sides and HD-DVD and Blu-ray Disc players coming down in price, the end of the format war is anything but a foregone conclusion. But rather than sitting on the fence, you can pick a player that supports both formats, and should do extremely high quality upconversion of standard definition DVDs as well, with its on-board Silicon Optix HQV (Hollywood Quality Video) Reon-VX video processor.

To be sure you're the first on your block to get one, Samsung's highly anticipated dual format BD-UP5000 player can now be pre-ordered from Amazon.com for a low $799.99 or OneCall.com for an even lower $775, each with free shipping. The announced list price was $1,049 so each of these offers represents substantial savings.
