NHT Demonstrates New PC Hifi System, Plus New In-Wall Speakers at CEDIA Expo

NHT (Now Hear This) chose this year's CEDIA Expo as the venue to formally announce new high performance in-wall speakers, a new stereo amplifier in their electronics line and an integrated powered speaker system designed to provide state of the art sound for your personal computer.

The new iW4 (SRP: $500 each) in-wall uses a four-driver, three-way system that includes a 3/4" aluminum dome tweeter, two 5.25" woofers, and a newly developed 2" midrange for enhanced dialog and vocal accuracy. All drivers are tightly clustered together to provide mounting flexibility. The monitor fits between standard 16" studs, vertically or horizontally, making it easy for installers to physically and sonically match the iW4 with any of NHT's traditional Classic or Evolution speaker systems. For enhanced bass performance, the iW4 can be paired with NHT's iWS modular, powered in-wall subwoofer system while retaining its stealthy invisibility.

NHT's IW4 - pretty, ain't it? Almost a shame you'll be hiding it inside your wall.

The iW4 features a frequency range of 50Hz - 20kHz, +/- 3dB, with 20 - 150 Watts amplification recommended. Sensitivity is rated at 86dB, and impedance is 8 ohms nominal. Cutout dimensions are 9.125" x 13.75", bezel dimensions are 10.125" x 14.75", and depth behind the wall measures 3 1/9".

NHT's Power2 packs 200 watts/channel into a sleek package.

Also on hand was a new amplifier in their electronics line, the Power2 ($1,200). The Power2, a two-channel amp rated at 200 watts/channel, joins the existing Controller preamp/processor and Power5 amplifier in NHT's new electronics line. It is designed to satisfy stereo "purists" or home theater aficionados who wish to expand a 5.1-channel system to 7.1 channels.

NHT's moo-soo system will add sonic excitement to any PC, portable audio player or flat panel TV. Dumplings not included.

And last but not least, NHT had on-hand their new Moo/Soo system, a powered near-field monitor subwoofer/satellite system designed to offer professional quality sound for personal computer or workstation listening. Two M-00 ($350/each) monitors are paired with the S-00 ($700) powered subwoofer and PVC ($99) Passive Volume Control to create a compact but powerful 2.1-channel system that will rock your virtual world. Initial listening at CEDIA was promising, so expect a full system review in these pages soon.
