VIZIO Wins Pop Sci Award for Theater 3D TV, Launches M-Series LED TVs

By Rachel Cericola

While you are probably getting ready to celebrate the holiday season, VIZIO is having a whole other party.

The manufacturer just received Popular Science magazine's "2011 Best of What's New Award" for its Theater 3D technology. Theater 3D is basically the company's own brand of passive 3D TV technology. To celebrate that accomplishment, VIZIO is launching a whole new line of M-Series Edge Lit Razor LED LCD Theater 3D HDTVs.

The new M-Series features VIZIO's own Theater 3D technology, which promises a flicker-free 3D experience with a wider horizontal viewing angle and improved action shots. In other words, they boast crystal-clear, in-your-face 3D! It should also be a pretty comfortable viewing experience, since the included passive 3D glasses don't use batteries. They are very lightweight -- and yes, we said they are included. VIZIO is planning to package up each M-Series set with four pairs of compatible 3D glasses, which you can take with you to (and actually use in) almost any 3D movie theater.

"From broadcast sporting events to streaming movies, VIZIO is truly making 3D content accessible for every family," said Matt McRae, VIZIO's Chief Technology Officer. "The M-Series incorporates the very latest Theater 3D technologies and the recent recognition from Popular Science only validates our efforts to provide customers with great technology at an exceptional value."

Available in 42-, 46-, 55-, and 65-inch sizes, the M-Series includes a full 1080p HD image, built-in Wi-Fi, 240Hz SPS Smooth Motion technology, StudioSound HD sound, four HDMI ports, and two USB ports.

Each one of the M-Series 3D TVs also includes VIZIO Internet Apps (V.I.A.) technology, which allows viewers to access on-demand movies, TV shows, social networks, music and photos, all right from the remote. Some of the current V.I.A. services include Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Pandora, Facebook, Hulu Plus, and much more. Don't worry about fumbling around the V.I.A. interface, either. That controller is a Bluetooth QWERTY remote, which makes navigation much easier.

VIZIO says that three of the M-Series Edge Lit Razor LED LCD Theater 3D HDTVs are available now. The 42-inch M3D420SR has an MSRP of $1039.99, the 46-inch M3D460SR is priced at $1259.99, and the 55-inch M3D550SR can be had for $1649.99. If you want to go even bigger, the 65-inch M3D650SV is expected to ship in January 2012, with an MSRP of $2099.99.
