The Hobbit Trilogy Extended Edition Blu-ray Set Up for Pre-Order

By Rachel Cericola

On November 17, Warner Bros. will release an Extended Edition Blu-ray of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, the final entry in the blockbuster trilogy. Not quite ready to say goodbye just yet? You may want to indulge in The Hobbit Trilogy Extended Edition.

The 9-disc Blu-ray box set will include extended editions of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. The set also features Digital Copy and UltraViolet Digital Copy versions of each movie.

While there aren't too many details about the entire box, the extended cut of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies features the film with an extra 20 minutes, as well as over 9 hours of bonus materials. Those extras include an audio commentary with Peter Jackson, the film's director/producer/screenwriter, and Philippa Boyens, co-producer/screenwriter. There's also the multi-part documentary "The Appendices" and "New Zealand: Home of Middle-earth - Part 3."

The Hobbit series stars Ian McKellen as Gandalf the Grey, Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins, and Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield. It also features an all-star cast, including Benedict Cumberbatch, Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Ken Stott, James Nesbitt, Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Elijah Wood, and Andy Serkis.

Fathom Events is planning to host a 3-night event that will air all three Hobbit Extended Edition versions in cinemas around the country. Check out the Fathom Events website for more information on that.

If you prefer to view all of The Hobbit films in the privacy of your own home, Amazon is currently taking pre-orders for The Hobbit Trilogy Extended Edition Blu-ray. It's listed with an MSRP of $99.98 but Amazon gives a bit of a discount on that. Warner Bros. also announced plans for a Blu-ray 3D version of the set, although pre-orders aren't up just yet (update: added link to 3D version on Amazon).
