Owners of the Sony BDP-S350 Blu-ray player (recently reviewed on Big Picture Big Sound) who have their players connected to the Internet got a pleasant surprise this week when Sony made available their latest firmware update to activate BD-Live functionality on the unit.

Updating the firmware from version 7.4.007 to 7.4.010, the update coincides with the newly announced BD-Live feature from Paramount for their recent Blu-ray release of the blockbuster Transformers and just in time to take advantage of Disney's forthcoming, October 7th release of their first Blu-ray Platinum Edition animated classic, Sleeping Beauty, which is set to be loaded with an abundance of unique interactive BD-Live features.

With this update, Sony's S350 becomes one of the first BD-Live-ready stand-alone Blu-ray players to receive full Profile 2.0 functionality, making it a true bargain at its SRP of $399 (and recently discounted street price of $295). I've tested the BD-Live features on the S350 using the John Mayer: Where the Light is -- Live in Los Angeles and Cirque du Soleil: Corteo BDs, and it worked flawlessly on both titles.
