Sony Adds Netflix Streaming to BRAVIA Internet Video Platform

By Rachel Cericola

Pretty soon you won't need any external boxes; the TV will be a one-stop shop for all of your entertainment. It's happening now. Sony is one of the many manufacturers adding more fun and functionality into its TV sets.

This week they announced that Netflix online streaming will be the latest addition to the company's BRAVIA Internet Video Platform. Some of Sony's TVs have the networked service built right into the unit. Other BRAVIA buyers can add the magic via the BRAVIA Internet Video Link module (MSRP: $300).

Like the various other TVs and boxes streaming Netflix, the service will be accessible via an on-screen Queue-based graphical user interface. You can use this interface to watch any of the movies and TV episodes in your Netflix "Watch Instantly" queue.  However, as with other Netflix-enabled devices, you can't actually add items to your queue - this must be done on the Netflix web site via your PC or Mac.

Sony says that the service includes over 25 different providers, including Amazon Video On Demand, YouTube, Sports Illustrated, Sony Pictures, Crackle, Slacker, Epicurious.com, Concierge.com, Style.com, and Dailymotion.

Of course, Netflix won't be available until this fall. Maybe they are planning to launch the same week as VIZIO? Other selections coming soon to the BRAVIA lineup include ON Networks, Golflink.com, eHow and Livestrong.com. Each one will features videos to help improve your swing, your cooking skills, your vacation, or just your life in general.

A good selection of Sony BRAVIA TVs are available now which include the BRAVIA Internet Video Platform.  Or simply add it to any TV with the BRAVIA Internet Video Link.
