Sharp Unveils BD-HP21H Blu-ray Player with BonusView

Sharp, one of the founding members of the Blu-ray Disc Association, used the IFA convention in Berlin to introduce its new Blu-ray Disc player, the BD-HP21H. The new player will be BonusView (Profile 1.1) compatible for playback of picture-in-picture content and secondary audio on Blu-ray releases authored with such features.

Technical specifications on the player will also include full 1080p/24 video output via HDMI, support for xvYCC/Deep Color over its HDMI 1.3 output, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD High Resolution and Master Audio decoding and bitstreaming. The player will also have an optional "Quick Start" mode for lower power consumption as well as the ability to playback JPEG images in "HD-like" quality.

The player's price has not yet been announced and availability is expected for October of this year.
