Sharp HT-SB500 3.1-Channel Sound Bar Adds Center Channel

By Chris Chiarella

The latest in Sharp Electronics' growing line of high-performance, high-convenience sound bar products, the newly-announced HT-SB500 3.1-Channel Sound Bar is clearly "one better" than their surprisingly good 2.1-channel HT-SB300 model. The wide, slender housing of the HT-SB500 contains the left and right speakers in addition to a dedicated center channel, along with the subwoofer.

The sleek unit neatly complements just about any big-screen flat-panel, providing a sonic step-up from the standard TV speakers. The redesigned front panel control uses Sharp Touch Panel technology for simple yet elegant operation, with installation far easier than a traditional home theater sound system. This 32-watt sound bar features decoding for Dolby Digital and DTS soundtracks, plus Dolby Pro Logic II processing and the benefit of Dolby Virtual Speaker, to create the illusion of 5.1-channel surround sound without the need for multiple speakers in the front of the room, and none whatsoever in the rear.

Sharp's latest sound bar (shown here beneath one of their TVs) offers superior audio and design.

The HT-SB500 also utilizes SRS TruSurround HD processing for a convincing multichannel surround effect complete with respectable bass and high frequencies. A remote control, mounting feet and wall-mounting plates are all included. Look (and listen) for the HT-SB500 in December, retailing for $349.99.
