Runco Adds Five 1080p Plasma HDTVs

By Rachel Cericola

Runco has cranked out five monster plasma HDTVs, ranging from 50 to 65 inches. Each of the new CinemaWall and PlasmaWall displays features Runco's own OPAL (Optical Path ALignment) technology, as well as the company's DHD 3 video processor.

OPAL is Runco's very own image enhancement technology. OPAL pumps the picture up a notch, making almost every seat in the house a good one. Previously, OPAL was only available on the company's WP-OPAL42 and CX-OPAL47 weatherproof LCDs.

"As other manufacturers abandon the plasma category, Runco continues to offer the best and broadest portfolio of high-end plasma displays, in addition to our world-class LCD displays and front projectors," says Ben Clifton, Runco vice president of technology. "Our newest plasma models deliver the superior video performance and installation versatility that our custom installation partners, and their clients, demand."

Runco's PlasmaWall XP-OPAL50 DHD combines proprietary OPAL enhancement technology and the DHD Controller/Processor.

Promising deeper blacks and better details, OPAL also reduces surface glare, which can often make for an annoying viewing experience. Other features include Vivix processing, VirtualWide discrete multiple aspect ratio control, a broad array of video input choices, and ISF (ccc) calibration modes.

Sold exclusively through Runco dealers, pricing is as follows:
  • CinemaWall XP-OPAL50 - $6,995
  • CinemaWall XP-OPAL65 - $13,495
  • PlasmaWall XP-OPAL50 DHD - $8,995
  • PlasmaWall XP-65 DHD3 - $13,495
  • PlasmaWall XP-OPAL65 DHD - $15,495

The CinemaWall XP-OPAL50 and XP-OPAL65 both have integrated video processing, while the PlasmaWall XP-OPAL50 DHD, XP-OPAL65 DHD and XP-65 DHD3 include Runco's next-generation DHD 3 external video controller processor. The new DHD 3 features Vivix III 1080p processing with VirtualWide and new VirtualCinema aspect ratios. It also offers installers an array of input, output and control ports in an external, rack-mountable form factor for a clean install.
