Onkyo Unveils TX-SR607 (Dolby PLIIz), TX-SR507, TX-SR307 A/V Receivers

In this economy, you may have to limit your A/V budget. Perish the thought! Well, Onkyo doesn't want you to suffer too badly, so they've just announced three new receivers at affordable prices.

Of course, $599 is nothing to sneeze at, but they are giving you some pretty sweet sounds in return. The TX-SR607 is the mostadvanced of the new models, promising every A/V technology under the sun, including Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD MAster Audio, Audyssey, Faroudja, and others. However, the big splash with this system is that Onkyo is beating all others to the punch by adding Dolby's ProLogic IIz processing. This adds a little something special to any existing home theater -- sound effects from above.

Dolby says the tech "introduces a vertical component to the horizontal soundfield of a conventional 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound system." Apparently, it also kick-starts the salivary glands. If dodging planes and spacecraft isn't enough for you, the unit also features a whopping six HDMI inputs, with one front-panel HDMI input for good measure.

In case you're not ready to go to those heights (in price or technology), Onkyo is knocking out two other respectable units: the TX-SR507 ($399) and the TX-SR307 ($299). Like the SR607, the SR507 features HDMI repeaters plus Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio processing. The TX-SR307 may have a beginner price-point, but kicks some audiophile butt, with HDMI pass-through switching on three inputs.

All three receivers also include four gaming modes, support for 1080p, Deep Color, and x.v.Color, and use the Audyssey 2EQ automatic calibration system.

The TX-SR307 and TX-SR507 are rated at 65- and 80-watts per channel. They will both start selling in March. The 7.2-channel TX-SR607 is rated at 90 watts per channel, and will follow in April.
