OPPO to Release First 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player

By Rachel Cericola

Back in June, OPPO Digital teased all of its Twitter fans (and home theater enthusiasts everywhere) with the photo that you see below. It may be hard to decipher, but an explanation was also included. The company revealed that they had a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player in the works.

This week, OPPO debuted that player at the CEDIA Expo in Dallas, Texas. Well, sort of. There still hasn't been an official announcement about the device. However, according to Chris Heinonen of Reference Home Theater, the player is named the UDP-203 and will retail for $499.

OPPO is being pretty tight-lipped about the whole thing. The company's website currently has a UHD page that states that a 4K Blu-ray player will be coming by the end of this year. There's no mention of the model number and no photos are featured. It just has a field for those wanting to get on the company's email list.

However, Heinonen is sharing plenty of photos on his Twitter page, which show the player's two HDMI outputs (one main and one specifically for audio), as well as one HDMI input. There are also two USB 3.0 ports, optical and coaxial digital audio ports, 7.1 analog outputs, a RS-232C port, and an Ethernet port. You can click over to Chris Heinonen's Twitter page for a closer peek at the player.

For now, the BDP-103/105 series and the BDT-101CI are the only Blu-ray products detailed on OPPO's website. We're hoping that will change very soon. Stay tuned.
