New Motion SLM Speaker is MartinLogan's Slimmest

By Rachel Cericola

MartinLogan is slimming down its speaker offering. The company just announced the Motion SLM, a super slender speaker that can hang on the wall or stand alone as an LCR option.

The company says that the Motion SLM is designed specifically to be paired with super-thin HDTVs. However, they certainly packed a lot into the slim cabinet. The Motion SLM features two 4-inch, ultra-slim fiber cone woofers and four-inch high-velocity passive bass radiators, as well as MartinLogan's patented Folded Motion tweeter.

That tweeter is key, featuring a transient response and a surface area that is supposedly eight-times that of a typical 1-inch dome tweeter. The end result promises clear, precise sound.

Despite having a cabinet that's only 1.45 inches thin, the Motion SLM boasts big sound. When the included wall-mount bracket and magnetic grille are added into the equation, MartinLogan says that the unit has a total wall protrusion of 1.83 inches.

Each Motion SLM can be wall-mounted with the aforementioned bracket and keyhole slot on the speaker's cabinet. Of course, it can also be put out on display, with the included curved black-glass base that allows for vertical placement on a shelf or in an equipment cabinet. If you want the unit horizontal, that's also an option, thanks to the speaker's "kick-stand" brackets, which can attach to the back of cabinet.

MartinLogan says that the Motion SLM has started shipping to dealers. It's priced at $499.95 each.
