A Blu-ray Player for $269? Memorex Unveils the MVBD-2510
By Brandon A. DuHamel
Memorex Announces Low Priced Blu-ray Player: The MVBD-2510
Memorex, best known for their recordable media, has entered the Blu-ray Disc player market with a sub-$300 Blu-ray Disc player. The model MVBD-2510 will be a BonusView Profile 1.1 player and feature full 1080/24p video for Blu-ray playback and upcoversion of DVDs to 1080/24p. The MVDBD-2510 will support decoding of Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD High Resolution and Master Audio and Dolby Digital Plus up to 7.1 channels as PCM over HDMI into a compatible A/V receiver or at up to 5.1 channels via the player's 5.1 channel analogue outputs. It will also bitstream all the advanced codecs over HDMI for decoding externally. The MVBD-2510 supports playback of all the standard disc formats including BD-ROM, DVD+ROM, DVD-R/DVD-RW, DVD+R/DVD+RW, CD-ROM, CD-R/CD-RW and JPEG on DVD/CD recordable media, but no SACD nor DVD-A playback, which is not surprising at this point as no Blu-ray players outside of the PS3 or first generation Panasonic have supported either of the those formats since Blu-ray's launch.
The player is expected to be available in November selling at a SRP of only $269, which will make the Memorex Blu-ray player the lowest priced Blu-ray player on the market, just in time for the holiday rush.
