Martin Logan Introduces Encore Thin-Film Home Theater Speakers

Thin is apparently still in, but it's also looking a little different than what we're used to in high-tech. When we first heard about Martin Logan's Encore TF LCR thin film transducer speaker, we were expecting something wafer thin. Unfortunately, you can't peel off the back and stick this baby to the wall, but it's still pretty darn cool.

Boasting some serious detail and fast driver response, the Encore TF uses an ATF (Advanced Thin Film) driver, as well as long-excursion, low-mass woofers and advanced crossover engineering to produce dynamic lifelike sound. Its discreet slimline design and uniform dispersion characteristics make it an excellent choice for center, front or rear channel duties (or all of the above for a perfectly matched multi-channel home theater system).

Where's the electrostatic panel that we know and love from MartinLogan? It's not here, but nor is the high price tag -- the Encore TF lists for just $499 each.   But don't be too concerned - the company says to expect great sound from this little guy, courtesy of the transducer design itself as well as MartinLogan's proprietary Vojtko topology for low distortion and seamless driver integration.  These design attributes make the Encore an excellent choice if you want to add center and surround channels to a 2-channel electrostatic system.

The Encore TF can go on the wall or off, thanks to an included (removable) tabletop stand. Gee though, it looks awful pretty under that big screen, doesn't it? You can mount it horizontally or vertically for maximum flexibility.  It all sounds good, but the best part: It's available now, so snag five or seven for your favorite home theater system today.
