Logitech Launches S715i Rechargeable iPod Speaker Dock

By Rachel Cericola

It's hard to imagine that anyone could make innovations in the iPod speaker market at this point. However, the Logitech S715i just might rock your socks off.

The company just announced the S715i iPod speaker dock. There are many aspects to set this unit apart from the usual crop of docks. First of all, the design is slick, classy, and completely portable.

It helps that the S715i is rechargeable, promising eight hours of audio goodness wherever you go. Thanks to the "tray-less" dock, this unit works with (and charges) any iPhone or iPod that has a Universal Dock Connector. Those without a compatible iPod won't get the charging function, but can still play any portable device using the product's auxiliary input.

Other features include a nice carrying case, as well as a remote, so you can rock out from up to 30 feet away.

Oh -- it also creates some pretty killer sound, too. That's because the company has packed eight custom drivers into the unit, all designed to handle a variety of sound frequencies. Logitech says that sound comes from two 3-inch laser-tuned neodymium drivers, two 1/2-inch neodymium tweeters, and four 2-inch passive radiators. That all boils down to some good bass and super crisp sound from something that basically equates to a boombox.

Of course, it's a killer boombox. It's also an affordable one. The Logitech S715i is now available for pre-order for $149.99.
