Logitech Designs New Harmony Elite as a Whole-House Controller

By Rachel Cericola

Despite plans to ditch the brand a few years back, Logitech is still working hard to get your smart home humming along in complete Harmony. In fact, the company just announced something that could be its most powerful remote yet.

The Logitech Harmony Elite works in conjunction with the Harmony Smart Hub to control AV devices, as well as lighting, temperature controls, door locks, and more. In fact, it features dedicated buttons that are designed to provide instant access to those smart home goodies. It even has a new color touchscreen that can deliver the status of all of those systems, all at a glance.

Like all Harmony remotes, the Elite allows users to program one-touch Activities. This is huge on the Harmony Elite, since you can program one button to dim the lights, adjust the shades, turn down the thermostat, and fire up the TV.

With the ability to support an unlimited number of connected home products and up to 15 AV devices, the Harmony Elite also has motion sensing, vibration feedback, gesture controls, motion-activated backlighting, custom Favorites, and a replaceable battery that promises 20 percent greater capacity. As with all Harmony remotes, the Elite is compatible with more than 270,000 popular home theater and connected home devices and brands.

Another perk is that Harmony Hub, which can relay signals from both the remote or the Harmony app for iOS and Android devices. That way, you can store connected devices inside cabinets and control components through walls or even when you're out of the house.

"Logitech Harmony is already known as the best universal controller on the market for entertainment devices, but we wanted to take things a step further to make the layout more intuitive and inclusive of new smart home scenarios," said Bruce Lancaster, general manager and vice president of Logitech Harmony. "We evolved the remote's design using direct Harmony customer feedback to better fit how our customers use and want to use their remote. The result is a simple and elegant way to control your entire home. With the Logitech Harmony Elite, it becomes easy to do what you want."

Logitech will start shipping the Harmony Elite sometime this month, with an MSRP of $349.99.
