Hulu Coming to Samsung, VIZIO HDTVs, but not for free

By Rachel Cericola

Hulu is coming to your Samsung and VIZIO HDTVs and other compatible devices. However, it's not a freebie; instead, it's coming in the form of Hulu Plus.

Hulu Plus is sort of like the Hulu that you've come to know and love. There's content from ABC, Fox and NBC, all in HD. It also has ads. Something new? The $9.99 per month you will have to pay. Still, it's an interesting service and some may find its access to current TV series to be worth the monthly fee.

VIZIO users will see the service added to VIZIO Internet Apps (VIA). This is available on VIA-enabled Blu-ray players as well as HDTVs ranging from 22 to 55 inches. Other VIA services include Flickr, Netflix, Twitter, VUDU, and more.

Just be aware that not every VIZIO HDTV features VIA services. If you do have a compatible device, don't worry if you don't see it yet. Hulu Plus not expected to launch on VIZIO VIA-enabled products for a few months.

That means Samsung has an exclusive, for now. Samsung owners will find Hulu Plus listed today (June 29, 2010) among other Samsung Apps, which are available on many of Samsung's 2010 Blu-ray players and Blu-ray home theater systems, as well as the majority of 2010 Samsung TVs over 40 inches. Just make sure to check that Samsung Apps are available on your HDTV or Blu-ray player, and you're in business.

Those without VIZIO or Samsung devices won't have to suffer for too long. Hulu expects to add Hulu Plus to Sony HDTVs, the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 sometime between now and early 2011.
