Harman Kardon Unveils 4 3D-Ready Home Theater Receivers

By Rachel Cericola

Ah -- there's nothing like summer. There's the surf, the sand, and the sound from new A/V equipment. Harman Kardon is kicking off the steamy season with four hot new AV receivers.

All four models are packing HDMI v.1.4a inputs, making any of these devices a welcome addition to any 3D home theater system. One other common feature is Harman Kardon's own Logic 7 sound processing, which promises a powerful, 360-degree sound experience.

With an MSRP of $479, the 5.1-channel AVR 1565 AV Receiver can pump 70 watts into each of its channels. Other features include Deep Color technology, decoding for Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio, and an AM/FM tuner. Color-coded binding-post connectors make setting the component up an easy process. There's also three HDMI inputs for other important AV devices, which can be controlled via the included programmable remote.

The 7.1-channel AVR 3650 Receiver features multiroom audio support and six HDMI inputs.

For $599 (MSRP), the 5.1-channel AVR 1650 steps the sound up to 95 watts per channel, and adds in an extra HDMI input. The component also has the Deep Color, Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio support, but adds in EZ-Set/EQ technology and Audio Return Channel. It's also compatible with iPhone/iPod devices, via the optional The Bridge IIIP docking station ($129).

The AVR 2650 offers 7.1-channel surround sound support, and sports 95 watts per channel, as well as Zone 2 options for multiroom audio. Packing in all of the features from the two 5.1 models, the $879 (MSRP) AVR 2650 adds in network connectivity for tapping into web radio and Sirius Satellite Radio (subscription fees apply). Besides Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding, this model also has support for Dolby Volume, and spots for five HDMI-compatible devices.

At the top of this AV heap is the 7.1-channel AVR 3650 Receiver, at $1099 (MSRP). Besides all of the features listed above, including multiroom audio, this model offers 110 watts for each channel and a total of six HDMI inputs, which includes one on the front panel.

According to Harman Kardon, all four models are currently shipping, so we're expecting that pre-order status to change very shortly.
