HDTV Deal: 3D-Ready 50-inch 1080p Panasonic Plasma TV: $999.98 Shipped (TC-P50GT25)

By Rachel Cericola

You may not think that you want or need a 3D TV. Amazon has another opinion, and they are certainly making the decision seem more enticing every day. The company just posted Panasonic's 50-inch TC-P50GT25 VIERA plasma 3D TV for $999.98. This includes free shipping, making your total a whopping 52 percent off the normal list price.  And don't forget - it also does 2D better than most TVs on the market today, so if you don't want 3D you still may very well want this TV!

This 50-incher includes tons of drool-worthy features, including real-time 2D to 3D conversion. While this doesn't quite compare to the real thing, it certainly can be a fun feature for some content while we wait for the studios to put out more of the good stuff on real 3D. Other highlights include a full HD 1080p image in 2D or 3D mode, THX certification (2D mode), and 600Hz Subfield Motion Drive technology for crystal clear moving images. We took a closer look at this model late last year. Find out more about this TV in our TC-P50GT25 Product Preview or check out Amazon's product page to get this deal now:

Of course, you can also network this set, for even more entertainment. Connect it to your wired home network (for wireless, you'll need the DY-WL10 adapter), and you'll get Panasonic's own VIERA Cast service. This provides on-demand access to content from Netflix, YouTube, Pandora, Amazon Video on Demand, and much more. Also, if you want to add in Panasonic's TY-CC10 camera, this set also makes for one super-cool way to make large screen Skype video calls to anyone in the world with Skype and a webcam.

If you don't want to go that big (although we recommend 50 inches as the minimum for 3D viewing), you can go for its little brother, the 42-inch TC-P42GT25. Amazon has this set listed at an equally nice price of $799.98, which includes shipping. Find out more here:

No matter what size you choose, you will be able to do 3D -- if you have the glasses, of course. And while no glasses are included with the TV, Panasonic has wrapped up two pairs, along with Avatar on Blu-ray 3D disc into its Ultimate 3D Starter Kit. That isn't part of the plasma's purchase price, but it is currently selling on Amazon for 40 percent off the list price:

Add Panasonic's TC-P50GT25 to your cart; the savings will be reflected upon checkout.
If you go for the starter kit, it would help if you also had a Blu-ray 3D player like Panasonic's DMP-BDT100. This unit plays back Blu-ray 3D discs, as well as your regular Blu-rays, DVDs (which it upconverts to 1080p), and CDs. It also provides yet another gateway to VIERA Cast. Our own Geoff Morrison gave the DMP-BDT100 three (out of four) stars, saying that the player offers, "a lot of bang for your buck." Read his full review of the DMP-BDT100 Blu-ray 3D player, or find out more on Amazon's product page:

If you're building your audio/video system from scratch, you'll probably want to add a little BIG SOUND into this equation. Just yesterday, we were talking up Amazon's deal on Panasonic SC-BTT350 5.1 Blu-ray 3D Home Theater System. This includes the player, 5.1 sound, and a mail-in rebate for Avatar, all for $249 (find out more here).

Both of these 3D-ready TVs, however, are great deals -- the type that you don't really want to pass up. It's important to note that to you'll need to order directly from Amazon (not one of its third-party merchants) to get that discounted price, as well as the free shipping. In addition to free enhanced shipping, where the shipper will bring the TV into your house and even plug it in to make sure it works, Amazon is also offering free 30-day returns on this set, if you're unhappy with it for any reason.  The set also falls under the retailer's TV Low Price Guarantee. That means if you can find the TC-P50GT25 for less within 14 days of the ship date, Amazon will refund you the difference.
