Epson Fires Up 5 New HD 1080p Home Theater Projectors

By Rachel Cericola

Epson has been cranking out affordable projector options for years -- and 2012 will be no different. The company just announced five new 1080p projectors at the CEDIA Expo, for both 2D and 3D home theaters.

All of the new projectors have active 3D technology, a 2D-to-3D conversion feature, and a split-screen mode so users can watch two 2D sources simultaneously. Each one also comes packing two pairs of 3D glasses, which boast up to 40 hours of movie-watching -- or three hours, if you use the new 3-minute quick charge option. Other features include Epson's 3LCD technology, five color modes in 2D and two color modes in 3D, two HDMI inputs, and options for component and composite video, VGA, RCA audio, and USB connections.

The new Pro Cinema 6020UB, Home Cinema 5020UB and 5020UBe (wireless) each have a contrast ratio of up to 320,000:1, THX certification, 2400 lumens of color brightness and 2400 lumens of white brightness, Epson's Super Resolution technology, a Fujinon OptiCinema lens, and the FineFrame feature for sharper video. The Pro Cinema 6020UB adds in two anamorphic lens modes, ISF calibration, color isolation, a ceiling mount, a cable cover and an extra lamp.

The new Pro Cinema 6020UB has full 1080p, 2400 lumens of color brightness and 2400 lumens of white brightness.

Epson also debuted two more affordable options, the Home Cinema 3020 and 3020e (wireless). These models drop the brightness to 2300 lumens, as well as the contrast ratio to up to 40,000:1. Both models also have two built-in 10W speakers for a complete solution in any room or even for a quickie movie under the stars.

The Home Cinema 5020UBe and 3020e come with a wireless transmitter for streaming up to five devices via the WirelessHD standard. Both also have an optical out port for wireless audio.

"Epson's latest home theater projectors deliver top-of-the-line 3D and 2D performance with high color brightness, along with a unique set of value-add features -- including wireless capabilities and an innovative split-screen mode -- that allow for flexible installation scenarios and a range of high-quality viewing options," said Jason Palmer, Epson's marketing manager. "Beyond performance, Epson's new line-up offers a range of features and benefits at varying price levels to meet the needs of both novice enthusiasts on a budget as well as the most discerning home theater elitists."

Epson will start selling the PowerLite Pro Cinema 6020UB and Home Cinema 5020UB and 5020UBe in November and October, respectively at sub-$4000 and sub-$3000 price points. The Home Cinema 3020 and 3020e will be available in October for under $2000. All models come with toll-free access to Epson's PrivateLine tech support line, a 90-day limited lamp warranty, and free two-business day exchange with Extra Care Home Service. The Home Cinema 5020UB/5020UBe and 3020/3020e include a two-year limited warranty, while the Pro Cinema 6020UB includes a three-year limited warranty.
