CES: Creative Sound Blaster for iTunes Set to Explode

By Chris Chiarella

At CES this year, Creative demonstrated Sound Blaster for iTunes, a potential boon for the 100M+ users of Apple's ubiquitous music manager. The compact Sound Blaster--what you see in the photo below is actually about the size of a pack of Juicy Fruit--just plugs it into a USB port on the PC or Mac, desktop or laptop, and it streams DRM-protected and unprotected music wirelessly.

At the same time, the Sound Blaster enhances the audio quality via Creative's trademark X-Fi processing, restoring much of the fidelity that was lost in the necessary compression to MP3 or AAC, and it works with the familiar iTunes interface. Sound Blaster for iTunes enables a wireless link to any speakers in the house when using an optional Creative Wireless Receiver, or it can play directly over compatible Creative wireless speakers or Creative wireless headphones.

Connect the small Creative Sound Blaster for iTunes (with X-Fi processing) to your PC or Mac, laptop or desktop,, and get ready to rock.

One of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to use the Sound Blaster for iTunes is to pair it with the new Creative GigaWorks T20W Series II Speaker System. Adding a new, wireless wrinkle to the sonically improved GigaWorks T20 Series II loudspeakers, truly one of the best-sounding desktop 2.0 solutions I've ever heard, a pair of the T20W speakers (or multiple pairs, within a 100-foot range from the computer) to receive the enhanced MP3s and iTunes without the need to set up a complicated home network. The GigaWorks T20W Series II speakers feature Creative's BasXPort design for ample bass without a subwoofer, along with a cloth dome tweeter and woven glass fiber woofer driver.

Sound Blaster for iTunes will retail for $99.99 this Spring. The Creative GigaWorks T20W Series II speaker system goes on sale later this month for $129.99. The Creative Wireless Receiver, which works with the Sound Blaster for iTunes and other wireless Creative products, is currently available.
