CES: VIZIO Unveils 72-inch 3D LED HDTV (XVTPRO720SV)

By Peter Suciu

To think that just a decade ago a flat panel 42-inch TV would have set you back nearly $10,000 - and now VIZIO has announced that it is bringing out a 72-inch 3D-enabled flat panel LED LCD HDTV later this year for just $3,499. The XVTPRO720SV will be available in August, as part of the flagship XVT Pro series.

This is a 1080p TruLED model that offers full HD 3D display, and includes a 480 SPS (Scenes Per Second) refresh rate for smooth 2D and 3D playback. It utilizes the SENSIO technology and Bluetooth-synchronized active shutter LCD glasses from XpanD (sold separately), to support encoded material from conventional DVD and Blu-ray players, as well as from future distribution channels including pay-per-view, video on demand, DTV and HDTV broadcasts. The XVT Pro line will be able to present 3D in full HD 1080p video to each eye by rapidly alternating between the left-eye and right-eye images within the same visual space.

This massive set will further feature 480 zones of "smart diming" -- VIZIO's name for local dimming LED technology -- for superior contrast and excellent black levels.  As with the rest of the XVT Pro line this set will have built-in Web content access including Netflix, VUDU and several other content providers courtesy of the VIZIO Internet Apps feature (VIA), but it will also feature a wireless HDMI receiver to stream content on the 60GHz band from a Blu-ray player, PC or other HDMI source. The XVTPRO720SV will feature built-in Wi-Fi along with a Bluetooth universal remote and full QWERTY keyboard.

The XVTPRO720SV is slated for August, 2010 avaiability and is expected to be priced at $3499 (MSRP).
