Buffalo Announces new MediaStation 8x Blu-ray Drives

Buffalo Technology, an industry leader in networking, memory, and storage devices, announced today two new additions to its line of optical drives: the new blazingly fast MediaStation 8x External Blu-ray Drive and MediaStation 8x Internal Blu-ray Drive. Claiming them to be the fastest Blu-ray drives on the market, Buffalo is positioning the MediaStation drives as the ideal solution for power users who need to archive content to optical discs or want optimal playback performance for BDs, DVDs and CDs from their notebooks or PCs.

The external MediaStation offers both high-speed USB 2.0 and eSATA ports for convenient plug-and-play connection to your notebook or PC. The internal drive uses SATA for easy installation. Further specs for the MediaStation Blu-ray drives includes support for the following formats: Blu-ray BD-R 8x, Blu-ray BD-RE 2x, DVD RAM 5x, DVD-R 16x, DVD+R 16x, DVD-RW 6x, DVD+RW 8x, CD-R 48x, and CD-RW 24x.

Buffalo is bundling the drives with a full array of multimedia software as well. Both the internal and external MediStation devices will come with CyberLink software suite for Windows with DVD Up-Sampling, PowerDVD for viewing video, PowerDirector for video editing, Power2Go for DVD authoring and burning; PowerBackup archival software, and PowerProducer for high definition video capturing and authoring as well as burning DVDs and Blu-rays. Additionally, both drives come with MediaStation InstantBurn and Medi@Show presentation software.

Both the external (BR-816SU2) and internal (BR-816FBS) drives are expected to be available later this month at estimated street prices of $399.99 for the external and $349.99 for the internal drive.
