Bose Combines HDTV and Music in New VideoWave II Entertainment System

By Rachel Cericola

Why have that AV system take over your entire living space, when one piece can do it all? That's the idea behind the newly announced Bose VideoWave II system -- well sort of.

If you want a Blu-ray player, a cable/satellite box and a few other AV essentials, those can be added in. However, this follow-up to the company's VideoWave combines a high-def TV, a home theater sound system, and a music system into one package.

The main piece of that package is a full 1080p HD LED backlit display, which has an aluminum-finish bezel. Available in 46- and 55-inch sizes, Bose says that the larger of the two will have a slightly thinner, sleeker frame.

Also packed in is a sound system, which includes six woofers matched to an acoustic Bose waveguide, the company's PhaseGuide sound radiator technology with a seven-element speaker array, and Bose digital signal processing.

The TV piece connects to a small, included console via one cable. From there, you can connect up to six other AV devices to the console. Other features include Bose ADAPTiQ audio calibration and an iPhone/iPod dock.

Each VideoWave II system also comes packing a new click-pad RF remote control, which controls the entire setup using a few buttons, a touch-sensitive click pad, and an on-screen interface.

Bose is throwing in a detachable table stand with each VideoWave II purchase. Howvever, you can opt to wall-mount it, via third-party VESA wall brackets (sold separately).

The 46- and 55-inch VideoWave II systems are selling now for $4999 and $5999, respectively.
