Best Buy Ruins Christmas for Some, Cancels Holiday Orders

By Rachel Cericola

Some of you have probably been stalking the FedEx or UPS guy waiting for your Best Buy order to arrive before Christmas. Boy, do we have some bad news for you. It seems that Best Buy may not be able to fill some of those orders this year.

Yeah, you aren't being punk'd. According to USA Today, Best Buy said that it was not able to keep up with consumer demand. As a result, they are not going to be able to fulfill some orders that were placed during the retailer's Black Friday sale.

Black Friday? Um, that was like a month ago. What the heck happened?

"Due to overwhelming demand of hot product offerings on BestBuy.com during the November and December time period, we have encountered a situation that has affected redemption of some of our customers' online orders," Best Buy said in an emailed statement to FOX 9 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. "We are very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused and we have notified the affected customers."

Sorry doesn't come close to cutting it for the many people complaining on the Best Buy community forums.

Best Buy has yet to announce how many people will be cursing on Christmas morning, as well as which products they don't seem to have in stock.

Best Buy has been pushing online promotions this year, in an effort to keep up with other retailers, such as Walmart and Amazon. Besides this season being the busiest time for retailers, it's also the busiest time for online shoppers. According to the USA Today report, online sales are up 15 percent this account, accounting for $32 billion of the shopping season.

This is not the first time that Best Buy has reported bad news during this season's shopping rush. Earlier this month, Bloomberg said that the retailer's profits were lower than expected, due to those same Black Friday discounts.
