Want a 97-inch Wireless 4K OLED TV? LG's 97M3 Can Be Yours for $30,000

By Chris Boylan

Got $30,000 burning a hole in your pocket? Check out LG's newest OLED TV, the 97-inch Model 97M3 Signature OLED M TV. This week the company formally unveiled pricing for the new model, which is available to order at LG.com for $29,999.99. While $30K may seem like a lot to drop on a TV, the 97-inch M3 wireless OLED is only about $5,000 more expensive than last year's 97-inch model, which was fully wired.  Smaller versions are also available with the 77-inch 77M3 selling for $4,999.99 and the 83-incher (83M3) selling for $7,999.99.

The company says this is the first wireless TV capable of displaying native 4K content at 120Hz. The sets use a separate connection hub called the Zero Connect Box which connects to the OLED panel wirelessly from up to 30 feet away. LG's proprietary wireless AV transmission solution is able to transmit large amounts of data at up to 30Gbps - three times the speed of the existing Wi-Fi standard. Of course, the TV does require one wire - a power cable - but the rest of the connections are made to the Zero Connect box. Connectivity options include HDMI 2.1 (x3), USB (x2), an RF antenna jack, wired LAN, WiFi and Bluetooth. The set includes a built-in NEXTGEN TV (ATSC 3.0) tuner.

LG's chic Gallery design features an ultra-thin bezel as well as a seamless, recessed "flush-to-wall" mounting system that minimizes the set's distance from the wall. The M3 sets will be right at home in even the most stylish living space or home theater.

"The technical feat of the 97M3 was made with LG's decade-long commitment to creating new customer value as a market pioneer," said Baik Seon-pill, leader of the LG Home Entertainment Company's Product Development Division. "As well as delivering the ultimate viewing experience on an ultra-large screen, our first-of-its-kind LG SIGNATURE OLED M presents customers with a new level of freedom in arranging their living spaces."

Big Picture? Check. Big Sound? Check.

Sonically speaking, the M3 includes support for Dolby Atmos and DTS surround sound with 60 watts of amplification driving a 4.2-channel speaker system. The set features LG's AI Sound Pro with a "Virtual 9.1.2 Up-mix." For HDR, the set can handle HLG, HDR10 and Dolby Vision high dynamic range including Dolby Vision IQ support. The set's "Filmmaker Mode" ensures that you'll see your favorite content just as the director intended. The set is powered by LG's a9 (Alpha 9) AI Processor Gen6, and the panel's native refresh rate is 120 Hz. The 97-inch model weights in at 127 pounds can use LG's easel-type floor stand, or can be wall mounted using LG's custom flush-to-wall mount system.

Good for the Goose, Good for the Gamer

The M3 Signature OLED TVs make great gaming displays with built-in support for ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode), NVIDIA Geforce Now and Utomic cloud gaming, Freesync and G-Sync compatibility, HGiG integration and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) support. The panel's rated response time in gaming mode is <0.1 ms.
