Tesla Referral Code for May 2021: 1,000 Free Miles of Supercharging

By Chris Boylan

With a Tesla referral code, any Tesla owner who refers a buyer to Tesla gets a free credit on Supercharging and the buyer of the car gets the same credit. You can also get a cash bonus on the referral of a Tesla solar system and you can even earn a Tesla Powerwall home battery with the referral of ten or more Tesla solar power systems.

Tesla's latest referral code offers both the buyer of a Tesla Model 3, Model Y, Model S or Model X and the referring Tesla owner 1,000 miles of free supercharging (400 kWh). Additionally, using this referral code to buy or lease Tesla solar panels or a solar roof will grant the buyer $100 and the referrer $400 after solar system installation. This offer replaces any previous promotion codes or referral offers. This supercharger bonus went into effect on October 1, 2019 and is still current as of May 3, 2021. Model Y became eligible for referral purchases in June, 2020.

If you are buying a Tesla and are looking for a Tesla referral code, contact a friend or family who already owns a Tesla to get their code. If you're the first on your block to make the Tesla plunge then feel free to use our link (below) in order to get the referral bonus.

For phone or in-store orders, use the code below.

Tesla Referral Code: Christopher55570

Offer Details: Buyer and referrer of any Tesla Model 3, Model Y, Model S or Model X each will be credited 1,000 free Supercharger miles (400 kWh), good at any Tesla Supercharger worldwide. The referring owner also gets one entry in raffles for a Founders Series Model Y (monthly drawings) or Tesla Roadster (quarterly drawings) per referral. Referring owners who already have free Supercharging will get two entries into these raffles. Bonus miles expire six months after they are activated. The cash referral bonus for Tesla solar systems is paid to buyer and referrer after solar system installation.

More About the Tesla Referral Program

Tesla likes to do things a bit differently from traditional auto makers. With a 100% electric drivetrain and advanced technology, the cars are different (of course) but also the way the company approaches marketing and advertising is different. While established automakers pay hundreds of millions of dollars in advertising to differentiate themselves from the rest of the pack, Tesla instead relies on customer word of mouth to sell their cars. And considering that the Model 3 was the top selling car (in overall revenue) in the United States in July and August of last year, it appears to be working. The Tesla referral program is a way to reward those who bring new customers to the Tesla fold and reward the new owner as well. By providing free Supercharging, Tesla owners can travel long distance without having to pay for fuel.

More on Tesla Superchargers

Tesla's Supercharger network provides high speed, high power charging to Tesla vehicles worldwide. Located along major interstates and in or near shopping centers and malls, a Tesla Supercharger can charge most Tesla EVs from 0% to 100% of range in 60-70 minutes. Or if you don't have quite as far to go, you can regain 60 percent of your range in about 20 minutes. These charge times are getting even better with the rollout of Tesla's V3 Superchargers.

With the Tesla referral program and referral code, you can get 1,000 miles of free Supercharging.

Charging speeds vary based on which Tesla you own, available charging current at the Supercharger and whether other vehicles are using the Supercharger at the same time. Some Supercharger stalls charge at a flat rate, while some share power with the neighboring stall. Charging speeds drop as you approach 100% SOC (State of Charge), so keep that in mind. If you want to minimize charging times, you may just want to charge up to 80% or 90% instead of maxing out your charge at 100%.

Every time I've stopped at a Supercharger (so far), I've had high charging speeds and never had to wait for a stall, but your mileage may vary (no pun intended).  Also, Tesla's built-in navigation system plots your long distance trips through Superchargers, letting you know the ideal places to stop to recharge so you'll never have to worry about running out of juice. We recently traveled 800 miles in our Model 3 from New York to Georgia and charged at Superchargers for free for the entire trip.

Tesla: More Affordable Than You Might Think

Although the earlier Federal tax credit on Tesla EVs expired in 2019, incentives may still be available in your area for EV purchases. Individual states including New York, Colorado and California (among others) offer tax incentives or point of purchase rebates to electric car buyers so check out what offers may be available in your area to help defray the cost of EV adoption.

With incentives, the lower maintenance expense and fuel costs of electric vehicles and the lower cost standard range and Standard Range Plus (SR+) versions of the Model 3 now available, you might be surprised how affordable a Tesla can be to own. How affordable? Using conservative estimates of fuel costs, depreciation and maintenance, the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range+ has a lower total cost of ownership over five years than a Toyota Camry.

While most Tesla cars are "made to order," the Tesla showrooms are also starting to keep inventory on hand for popular configurations of the Model 3, Model S and Model X. Once you place your order online, you may be able to find the exact model you want nearby so you won't have to wait for custom order and delivery.

We've had our Model 3 since March of 2018, and I must say that it is an absolute joy to drive, even when it's doing the driving (AutoPilot). You can read more in the articles below.
