LG OLED TV Price Drop: 55-Inch C8 OLED 4K TV: $1,314.91, 65-inch $1,917.90

By Chris Boylan

Whether you enjoy watching movies, TV or sports - or all of the above - LG's current batch of OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) TVs are among the best you can buy for picture quality. With over eight million self-emissive pixels, OLED TVs create deep inky black levels and richly saturated colors that virtually pop off the screen. The only down-side? They're a bit pricey.

This week, LG OLED TVs have gotten a bit more affordable. The company just dropped the prices on their 2018 4K Ultra HD OLED TVs to the lowest we've ever seen. Right now at authorized LG retailers (like Amazon), you can find the 55-inch C8 OLED 4K TV for under $1,350 and the 65-inch C8 OLED 4K TV for under $1,950. This is approximately $1000 off the original list price of the 55-incher and $1,400 below the original list price of the 65-inch model. Pricing in the headline was current and TVs are in stock and available on Amazon.com as of 2/28/19 at 3:00 PM but at these prices, they may not last. \

UPDATE (3/4): It appears Amazon has sold out their stock of these TVs and the prices are now higher from third party marketplace sellers.

For comparison, the best prices we found on LG's 55-inch OLED on Black Friday weekend was about $1,600 and the 65-inch was about $2,500. So this is the best deal we've seen and are likely to see on LG OLEDs for a while. The reason for price drop? LG needs to make room for their new 2019 models, which are coming later this spring.

We've had the 65-inch 2018 C8 model in for long-term review for the past few weeks and can say that it is among the best TVs we've tested. Some of the minor shortcomings on the 2017 model have been addressed with improvements to video processing, overall brightness and color accuracy.

The C8 series OLED TVs, like all of LG's 2018 LG OLED TVs, feature 4K Cinema HDR, with support for the major high dynamic range formats such as Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG. The sets use LG's advanced tone-mapping technology to provide scene-by-scene HDR optimization. This allows these TVs to optimize the dynamic range for the specific panel and even to make standard content look more like HDR content.

The C8 TVs also include LG's "AI ThinQ" Smart TV platform, with a comprehensive selection of built-in streaming apps. Many of these apps support native 4K HDR content such as Amazon, Netflix and Vudu. These sets also have the Google Assistant built in, so you can control compatible smart home devices, search for content or information and control the TV using just your voice. LG TVs with AI ThinQ can also be controlled by Amazon's Alexa devices.

Pricing and availabilty can (and will) change to check out the Amazon links above to verify stock, pricing and avaiability. Because these prices are so low, you may need to add the item to your cart in order to see the current price.
