CES: Sony Unveils New Blu-ray HTiB Systems: BDV-HZ970W, BDV-E770W, BDV-E570

By Dennis Burger

In addition to its new standalone Blu-ray players, Sony introduced several new Blu-ray Disc Home Theater Systems at this year's CES.

The cream of the crop is the BDV-HZ970W, a fully 3D-capable 5.1-channel system that boasts 1000 total watts of power and Sony's S-AIR wireless audio transmission technology for the surround channels. It also supports wireless multi-room speakers (sold separately), and features full compatibility with DLNA devices. Wireless LAN access allows for easy access to BD-Live, as well as Sony's BRAVIA Internet Video platform.  The BDV-HZ970W will be available in the second quarter at an undisclosed price.

The BDV-E770W is a similar system with smaller front-channel speakers and no Blu-ray 3D playback. It still features the S-AIR wireless speakers and DLNA support, as well as the same ability to play audio from your iPod via USB.  The BDV-E770W will be available in March for $649.99 (pre-order now from SonyStyle).

The next model down, the BDV-E570, loses integrated S-AIR support, but the feature can be added later with the purchase of an optional transmitter. It still features the Entertainment Database Browser with Gracenote technology found on the two higher models, along with the same DVD upconversion and SACD playback.  The BDV-E570 will be available in March for $549.99 (pre-order now from SonyStyle).

All three systems feature full Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding, as well as a BD Remote Control App for the iPhone/iPod Touch.
