TV Deal: 65-inch LG or Sony OLED TV Under $1620 - Here's How

By Chris Boylan

Black Friday 2021 is here and there are great TV and electronics deals to be had online so you don't need to fight the crowds. Here at Big Picture Big Sound, we only post deals for products that we would actually own or personally recommend to friends and family. And we've spotted a couple of TV deals that definitely qualify. Purchases used using our links may earn Big Picture Big Sound commission.

The top rated TVs on the market today are OLED models from LG and Sony. In terms of picture quality, these TVs leave the competition in the dust with outstanding contrast, color saturation and motion reproduction. Their self-emissive pixel technology makes them the best choices for movies, sports and gaming. But picture performance comes at a price.

The 65-inch models typically sell in the $2,500 price range, though they do sometimes get discounted below $2,000. Right now, you can get LG's top-rated C1 series TV or Sony's critically acclaimed A80J series TV in a 65-inch size for just under $1800. But wait, there's more! If you use an Amazon Prime card to pay for your purchase you earn an additional 10% back after purchase, bringing the net cost for either model under $1620 (plus any applicable taxes). Delivery is included in the price for Amazon Prime members. Note that this cash back deal is for a limited time only, ending on November 29, 2021.

Here's the math (and links to purchase on Amazon):

Here are details on the 10% cash back offer: Get 10% Cash Back on select LG and Sony TVs.

So which one should you get? The picture performance differences between the two models are pretty subtle. As both sets use OLED panels sourced from LG Display, you'll get excellent black levels, contrast and motion reproduction on either set. Both sets offer outstanding quality for movies and sports. LG's C1 series gets slightly higher marks for next generation console gaming, thanks to its Game Optimizer mode, Variable Refresh Rate support and low 13.1 ms input lag.

Both sets have an extensive selection of streaming choices, with LG's streaming platform built on its WebOS operating system and Sony based on the Google TV platform. LG's unique "magic remote" motion aware remote with scroll wheel has its fans and detractors while the Sony remote is more traditional in design. Sony's slightly thicker panel depth leads some to believe that its build quality is a bit more substantial than the LG but this is something that is hard to judge objectively. Both appear to be built sturdily, and both offer a nice slim profile when wall or stand mounted.

If you're going to use the set with a next generation gaming console, LG currently has the edge. But if you're not a gamer, it really comes down to brand preference and which styling you prefer. Either makes an excellent choice.
