Want a Star Wars LG OLED TV? Click Quickly - Only 501 Will Be Made

By Chris Boylan

LG has partnered with Lucasfilm to bring out a limited edition Star Wars-themed OLED TV. If you've ever watched a Star Wars movie on an LG OLED TV, you'll understand how perfect a fit this is. OLED's pixel-level control of the picture makes those opening starfield images and closing credits of white text on a starry black background look positively stunning, practically three dimensional. And the set's bright punchy colors, UltraHD detail and unmatched contrast make the rest of the movies look pretty damn good, too.

The Star Wars LG OLED evo TV (OLED65C2SW) features a Star Wars-themed cosmetic design with a special edition Star Wars-branded version of LG's "Magic Remote" remote control, an exclusive digital gallery of Star Wars content, and the tell-tale sound of Darth Vader breathing when the set powers up. You'll probably even want to keep the box it comes in as it features the Star Wars logo and Lord Vader himself. (Remember: collectible toys always sell for more in their original boxes.) For wanna-be Jedis and Padawans alike, the customized Magic Remote control mimics the action of a lightsaber, in both sound and display. Each TV box will include a numbered certificate of authenticity. Only 501 of these bad boys will be made.

Why are they making exactly 501? That number honors the legendary 501st Legion, a battalion of elite stormtroopers under the command of the Dark Lord of the Sith himself. But with a quantity so small, you can't just walk into a Best Buy or CostCo and stick one in your shopping cart. The *only* place you can get one is on LG's web site. The cost of the 65-inch custom set is $2999 (a $500 premium over the regular C2 model's list price) and the ability to order one will go live on June 21st at 11 AM.

With custom Star Wars packaging, you'll probably want to hold onto the box.

Beyond the novelty appeal and the potential collectability of the set, the Evo series C2 OLED also happens to be one of the best TVs you can currently buy, in terms of picture quality and performance. It also includes the full suite of streaming and other apps courtesy of LG's WebOS smart TV platform. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and of course Disney+ are all available for your streaming pleasure. With deep black levels and vivid color, LG's OLED TVs are a natural fit to watch movies (and TV series) in the Star Wars series.

Given the voracious appetite of Star Wars fans (second only to the appetite of a Sarlacc), we don't expect these sets to last very long. So if you want one, be sure to be ready with your credit card at 11 AM Eastern Time on June 21.
