Samsung Offers 3DTV Starter Kit Free to Buyers of 3D LED TV and Blu-ray 3D Player

By Enid Burns

At a press event earlier this week, Samsung announced that, starting March 21st, customers who buy a Samsung Full HD 3DTV along with a Samsung Blu-ray 3D player or Blu-ray 3D Home Theater in a Box (HTiB) system will be eligible to receive a free 3-D Starter Kit. The kit includes two pairs of active 3-D glasses and a copy of the Blu-ray 3D version of Monsters vs. Aliens from Dreamworks.

Update (3/21/10): This offer is available online for select C7000 series Full HD LED TVs when purchased with Samsung's BD-C6900 Blu-ray 3D player.  You can take advantage of this offer now via the following links:

Samsung is offering the kit, through a partnership with Dreamworks, to spur the adoption of its new 3D-enabled technology and also to promote Dreamworks venture into the Blu-ray 3D format.  "Samsung is proud to deliver increasingly flexible, immersive HDTV experiences including the incorporation of 3-D technology that meet consumers' evolving entertainment expectations," said John Revie, senior vice president of Home Entertainment for Samsung.  The President of Samsung Electronics USA, Tim Baxter made the announcement and handed off the first 3-D Starter Kit to Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of Dreamworks.

Katzenberg gladly accepted the kit, and praised Samsung for their efforts in bringing a high quality 3-D experience into consumer's homes.  To further that pursuit, Katzenberg announced that the first three Shrek films would also be released in Blu-ray 3D format later this year in support of the upcoming (and final) film in the series, "Shrek: Forever After" which hits theaters in 3-D in May of this year.

A single pair of Samsung 3-D active shutter glasses sells for $149.99 so this little bonus is worth well over $300 including the movie.

Stylish? Not really. But who needs to be in style when all eyes on are on the TV set?
