Who would have thought that Jack Nicholson could surprise us again? As Alexander Payne's title character, Nicholson drops everything that makes him \'Jack' and gives the most raw, honest portrayal of his career.

The Hours
Stunning performances by Streep, Kidman and Moore are enough to make this gutwrenching story of three women linked by Virginia Woolf's "Mrs. Dalloway" through a century of time one of the best films of the year. Outstanding writing and direction just seal the deal.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Mad genius Peter Jackson continues to defy expectations with an adaptation of the second chapter of J.R.R. Tolkien's "Rings" trilogy which is every bit as good, and sometimes better, than the first.

Spider-Man
With the exception of a typically Hollywood climactic battle, director Sam Raimi creates a near-perfect comic book movie led by the spot-on casting of Tobey Maguire as the famous web-slinger.
