    Default panny dmp-bd55 w/pio 82txs s.direct button?

my impression overall is the sound is a vast improvement with this bd55 over my sony dvd player. the picture is very good, but i am more impressed with the sound quality. i still have some areas of confusion regarding set up with my pio 82txs recvr.any help appreciated.

while playing a "dts-hd" disc i started playing with the pio 82txs. if i use "pure direct" the avr display shows the "dsp" is off and the "phase control" is off. then i used the "re-master" button on the bd55. is that the correct way to listen if i want to solely rely on the bd55 for sound processing, using hdmi over bitstream, i an just guessing this?
i also cant figure out if i should leave the pio in surround back mode in auto/on/or off or if it matters at all, since the sb icons light on my receiver.
"hi-bit" sampling is on...dont know if that makes any difference either?

at times i see "96khz/pcm" on the pio display and i have no clue what that means and there is no mention of that in the pio manual?
thanks for your help in advance, nick

    Hi, Nick,

There is no "correct" or "incorrect" way to listen. Pioneer's "pure direct" mode does minimize the digital processing of an input signal. But depending on the capabilities of your system and your preferences, you might find that some of the surround modes like Dolby PLIIx enhance the sound on 5.1-channel material.

The "Re-Master" button on the Panasonic remote adds 96KHz upsampling processing to the PCM output which can open up the soundstage a bit on 48KHz material, but it may do some EQ as well - I really haven't played around with it too much. Your Pioneer reads "96Khz/PCM" when it is receiving a 96KHz signal, either a native one from a 96KHz soundtrack or a "re-mastered" one from the Panny's Re-master function.

Also, DTS-HD 5.1 soundtracks are automatically "amplified" by the BD55 to 7.1 over PCM so you should see all 7.1 channels being received by your Pioneer when playing DTS-HD tracks.

Anyway, I think you've got everything set up right so do some experimentation to see what sounds best to you.
