    Default Resume Playback question

On the Panasonic BD55 i noticed the resume playback function does not work. If you press stop and then press play again the entire movie starts over.

Is this nuance related to all blu ray players (do sony blu ray players have this problem) or only dependent on blu ray discs? Is there a firmware upgrade to solve this problem?

    thanks.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Blu-ray! It's not a player problem. The BD55 can resume playback on Blu-ray titles that are not authored with BD-Java. Unfortunately many if not most of the newer BD titles are authored with BD-Java, so "resume playback" is not possible on the BD55, nor on any other Blu-ray player currently on the market (at least not to my knowledge, and I've used/tested a few).

I think BD-Java titles do have "bookmarking" functions but I'm not sure if these are standard on all BD-JAva titles (I think not). So, at least right now, this is a bit of a step backward from DVD.

Default SD DVD Resume Playback Error on Panny BD35

This might have been an isolated problem, but I will go ahead and report it here for the record.......I was watching License to Drive on SD DVD and halfway through the movie I stopped it and went to sleep. The next morning I powered the unit on to finish watching the movie, and my Panny BD35 went out of whack. It started the movie from the begining and it randomly selected the audio commentary track. I let the movie play again from the begining for about 10 mins and then I turned the player off and on to confirm It wouldn't resume playback, and It didn't. I have owned the Panny BD10, BD30 and now the BD35 and I never had any problems with resume playback on SD DVD's until now 3 generations of players later. I was going to contact Panasonic to report the problem, but then I decided not to because they probably won't care about one SD DVD catalog title that did not resume.......

If it happens on one, it may happen on others. Reporting it to Panasonic isn't a bad idea as these types of reports lead to firmware upgrades. But have you seen this with any other titles?

I bought this player about a month ago and I haven't had the opportunity to play much SD DVD's on it. So far License to Drive is the only one, but I will be playing more SD DVD titles in the next few weeks to test. I will however follow your advice and contact Panasonic to report the issue.

    Thanks.
