Default oppo blue ray player

Does anyone have the new oppo blue ray player ? I have read some great reviews about the product and the company. I was just wondering how the oppo compares in picture and sound for blue ray movies to the panasonic dmp35 blue ray player. I know the oppo does handle every format disc you can throw at it, but i am more interested in the blue ray part. Also are the load times much faster than the pansonic ? thanks for your input...hammer

We have one now but probably will not be publishing the full review until after CEDIA Expo. Yes it's fast. Fastest that we've seen so far. And the DVD upconversion is excellent and it plays DVD-Audio and SACD which is great if you have those.

Where it is lacking is in IPTV capabilities - no YouTube, no Netflix streaming, no Pandora, etc. If this type of thing is important to you, then you'll need to either get a separate Roku box or buy a TV that has these features. As a Blu-ray/DVD player the OPPO is top-notch.

I will look forward to your review of the player. I have yet to read a bad review on it and that not only goes for the player but the company as well. I guess the customer support is very good and not some call center in India somewhere. Which is important to me since I call the manufactures to send me a updated firmware disc sent to my house, instead of downloading it off the computer. If I decide to get this model will I see a difference in blue ray picture quality over the panasonic dmp35 ?

Hi Hammer,

I have both machines (purchased the DMP-35 because of Chris' review and love it). Recently got the Oppo. As Chris mentioned, does not have the online options if that is critical to you. But as a blu-ray player, it's excellent and extremely fast! It also upscales regular DVD's a bit better. But for blu-ray, it's hard for me to tell. They are both excellent (a lot may depend on your display also). I debated on the DMP80 for another player (we needed another one for the bedroom, DMP35 went there). What as important to us was speed and upscaling, hence, the Oppo.
