    Thumbs up

QUICK ADVICE FOR ALL BD80 OWNERS CONNECTING THEIR PLAYER THROUGH ANALOG OUTPUT:
    1) ALWAYS READ THE OPERATIONS MANUAL CAREFULLY, COVER TO COVER,
    2) ALL LINES IN THE MANUAL MATTERS WITHER APPLICABLE TO YOUR USE OR NOT,
    3) DON'T HESITATE ASKING THE PROS, THANKS CHRIS,
    4) AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF THE V.SURROUND OPTION IN THE DISPLAY MENU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IT TURNED OUT TO BE THAT TURNING ON THE V.SURROUND OPTION WILL KILL YOUR 5.1 OUTPUTS & WILL LEAVE YOU ALONE WITH 2 CH STEREO ONLY SO YOU COULD VIRTUALLY ENJOY THE SOUND TRACK!!!!!!! ALTHOUGH IT WAS OBVIOUS ENOUGH FROM ITS NAME, THIS IS A VIRTUAL SURROUND FIELD -1&2- & FROM MY EXPERIENCE WITH PREVIOUS AVRs & DVD PLAYERS, YES, V.SURROUND DOES KILL THE SURROUND & SW CHANNELS.
TAKE CARE EVERY ONE & ENJOY YOUR AMAZING PLAYER.

Well that's a new one. Thanks for posting this. I was going to suggest re-setting everything to factory defaults, but I had no idea you had modified the audio settings in the Display menu (and actually had no idea that changing this would screw up the discrete multi-channel outputs).

Honestly this sounds to me like a bug in the player. A virtual surround setting should only be applied to 2-channel outputs, not to content that is already in surround. But unfortunately I cannot test to confirm as I no longer have the BD80 (alas, eventually we have to send our review samples back).

I'll try it out on the BD70V though, as it should have a similar effect.

Again, thanks for the post. Hopefully it will help someone else who is having the same problem.
