    Default DivX Activation

Some information was given to me in the CNET Samsung forum by their resident Tech in regards to some Samsung units requiring DivX to be activated in order to play DivX files.

Have you come across this before? If so, can you provide instructions on how I can proceed in doing that?

    Thanks!

I don't think this is related unless you are trying to view licensed Divx Video-on-demand content (which you're not). You're trying to watch standalone Divx content. No player license or registration is required for that.

But you can certainly try and see if it makes any difference. *IF* your unit supports Divx, then there should be an option in your player's set-up menu for "Divx Registration" in the "System" section in set-up. To get details on how to obtain a code for your device you need to go to VOD - Video on Demand - DivX VOD

But again, this shuld only affect you if you want to watch Divx video-on-demand content.

Is there any chance you somehow got a US version of the BD1250 and you're trying to use that in Canada? If so, that would explain why Divx is not available on your player since it's not supported on the US version of the BD1250. Where did you buy the player?

    Regards,

    -Chris

    Default Bought locally

I bought it locally in Ottawa, Ontario and the firmware version is apparently the Canadian version (XAC versus XAA).

And there is no option in the System Setup to activate DivX.

    Thanks!

I'm afraid at this point there are no player settings that will help you. If Samsung does indeed support Divx on the Canadian model, then I think you'll need to send this to them locally for repair.

    Default Update

Sorry for reviving an old thread but thought I should provide you an update and some closure on this.

In mid-June Samsung updated their website and the XAC PDF manual and have removed all references to DivX being supported by the HT-BD1250.

Their official support forum claims it was a "typo". I disagree. A typo is when I mess up letters in a word or accidentally leave out a letter or use the wrong spelling of a word.

An entire section within the XAC manual covered how to play DivX movies...a little more then a typo! More like a gross misrepresentation!

That aside, Samsung refused to help me but agreed to allow the dealer I bought it from to return it to them.

I spoke to my dealer and they agreed to take the home theatre back. Unfortunately they didn't have any other home theatres with blu-ray built-in and DivX support. So I had to exchange for a home theatre and seperate blu-ray player.

Both are still Samsung products and both support DivX and the blu-ray player supports PC Streaming.

I received them on Tuesday and everything works great!

    Thanks!

Yeah, the people in charge of the Samsung web sites seem to be asleep at the wheel. The HT-AS730ST (which may be the home theater system you ended up buying) used to be written up on the Web site as having wireless capabilities so you could do the rear speakers without wires. But it turns out that there are NO wireless capabilities on that unit at all. There is not even an optional kit you can purchase to add wireless capabilities (at least not one offered by Samsung). We pointed this out to them when we were reviewing that unit and then they fixed their Web descriptions to coincide with reality.

You might be interested in knowing that Samsung just announced a brand new Blu-ray HTiB system (the HT-BD3252) that seems to include everything - WiFi, wireless rear speakers, PC streaming - at least if you believe the press release. We published a story about this today:

Samsung Unveils HT-BD3252 Blu-ray Home Theater System: BigPictureBigSound

I only hope that the actual product includes all of the features that they say it will in the announcement!
