    Default Samsung BD-P3600

Just bought this player in the UK, we got no access to Netflix or Pandora or anything similar to those.

anyway apparently it does have some feature called BD Live. so i went out an bought a BD that had BDLive extra's... Da Vinci code. came home put the disk in - wouldnt let me register spent thirty mins. so gave up registered on the net then logged on. now first of all before i tried anythin on disk i'd do a network test on it-which it passes really quickly. but on the disk when i try to log in to CineChat it says "connection error-confirm ur player is connected to the internet"

also when i'm on BD Live and i select to download something the 'downward' faceing blue arrow turns to a X for about 2-3 seconds then goes back to the blue arrow? is this normal? it does it for literaly everything apart from last night it let me download the 'standard' trailer for Obsessed nothing else works!!

BD-Live may not work if you attempt to play a disc from outside its official region. So if this were say, a BD intended for the US market and you play it in Europe or Asia, you might get errors. I've heard of this happening on Disney discs in some cases.

Also, if your DNS (domain name server) settings are not correct on the player, then the player may not be able to find some or all of the BD-Live servers. Verify your DNS servings on your PC and see if they match in the player's network setup. To read more about this, check out my post on getting BD-Live to work on the Panasonic BD players. The same tips apply to the BD-P3600 though the actual set-up screens have different names:

    Hope that helps.

hi thanks for the reply, all the net work settings are fine. and the Disk is sold in the UK and has uk written on the back, as well as all regions. annoyingly it is the only disk i have that has BD live features.

the bit i dont understand is, why does it sometimes let me download the standard trailer of Obsessed but nothing else!

It's worth checking the DNS values specifically. The network test will still pass even if the DNS is wrong because it pings an IP address directly, not a domain name. Did you try ipconig/all on your PC and see if the domain name servers listed on the PC are the same as the ones that show up in the Samsung network settings screen?

As for why you can download an SD trailer and not the other content, it's possible that this one piece of content is linked to an IP Address instead of to a domain name (unlikely but possible). You should also try other BD-Live discs and see if these work any better.

But first at least double-check the DNS values. This is the most common reason for BD Live failure for players that pass the network test.

Not "ipconfig" - you have to do "ipconfig/all" - without the /all you won't see the DNS entries.

the dns server is the same as the gateway which when i changed, and then tried the BD live, it didnt even get to the BD live menu's it just stayed at the BD live loading screen.

When you do an ipconfig /all, you should see two or three distinct IP Addresses listed on your PC under DNS Servers. It would be unusual for your gateway and DNS server to be the same, unless this is actually the IP Address of your network router. Is it an address like 192.168.1.1 or something similar? If so, that's an internal network IP on your home network, not an external internet IP on the internet and this is not your actual DNS IP address.

If that is the case, the best way to find out your "real" IP addresses for your ISP's DNS servers is to go into your router's admin panels and look for it there (what this is called depends on exactly which make and model router you're using).

But there is another thing you should check. Make sure, in the Samsung player's network set-up, that you have BD-Live Internet Connection set to "allow(all)." If it isn't then set it to that, and make sure to fix your DNS issue and try again. If this was causing the BD-Live problem in the first place, then you can go back to DHCP network set up with DNS set to AUTO, start all over with the BD-Live set to allow(all) and you should be good to go.

The BD-P3600 does have 1 GB of on-board storage on it, which is the bare minimum required for BD-Live use. You should consider getting a 4 GB or 8GB USB flash memory stick, plugged into the player's front USB port in order to expand your storage available for BD-Live downloads. But it should work with the 1GB of storage.

    Good luck,

OK, these are not "real" IP Addresses. They're internal only to your network. If your PC is working with a DNS entry of 192.*.*.* then this means your actual router is handling the DNS duties and sending them off to your ISP's Domain name servers dynamically. I believe this can only work in a full DHCP configuration.

Can you find the real DNS entries in your router's admin panel? If you're using a linksys router, then the IP for the admin panel should be 192.168.1.1 so type that into your browser (http://192.168.1.1) in order to bring up your router's admin panels and look around there for the DNS entries. But your specific router may use a different IP so either check your manual or look online to find out the URL for your specific admin panel. Once you're in there dig around to see if you can find the IP addresses for your ISP's Domain Name Servers (DNS), and try plugging these into your player.

But again, a simpler explanation for all this would be if you do not have BD-Live enabled on the player. Do you have BD-Live Connection set to allow(all)? If not, then change it to that and go back to DHCP IP addressing and DNS Auto in the player's Network set-up and try again.
