Hi gang + thanks for such a great forum

Just having trouble on Samsung 3600 - when i play DIVX - everything goes Black + White...any ideas?

I have a cheap-o Samsung DVD player that works fine with the same files...

    ------------
Also had having trouble passing Internet Service Test + networking - but thanks for your other thread anyway --

    Hi,

If you're having trouble getting any network/internet connection, then it could be a DNS problem. Check this thread for details on how to set the DNS manually. To set the actual IP address manually, you will need to check the range assigned by your router and assign a number within that range that is not already in use. But here's how to determine and set the DNS settings:

The post with specific tips on getting PC Networking to work, you've probably already seen:

    http://www.bigpicturebigsound.com/fo...-bd-p4600.html

Are you saying that you've already read both of these and are still having trouble connecting? Have you tried a hard wired connection instead of wireless to see if the behavior is any different? I've read that certain wireless networks (specifically Airport Extreme/Express) can be problematic for some users, due to their IPv6 security.

As for the DivX black and white issue, that's a new one! Does it happen for all material or just certain files? Are they standard Divx or are they xvid?

Thanks CB - helpful as always -

Tried a few differnet files - AVi(DIVX), even recencoded a file using DIVX - still no go...

On the networking...I wasn't clear sorry - I am hardwired, manual settings, but could not pass Internet Service Test(?) or see Sammy on my PC - - everything else was ticked-
The thread you started on Networkins great + helped - but I'm still not quite across the line yet -

Maybe some sleep will help - cheers/matt

Sleep is good, at least once in a while, but black and white Divx is bizarre and should never happen. I suspect you've got a bad unit. Can you exchange it for a new one? It could be the network problems are due to a player defect as well.

    Good luck!

Ok - interesting update for you:

Had to explain all the issues to my German girlfirend + she called Samsung.de - yes I just realized I forgot to mention I'm an Australian in Germany

The code on the back of the machine is. BD-P3600 EDC
The player INFO screen says: BD-P3600 XEF
[eject draw + hold info button - thank you forum tips]

... this seems to be the problem - maybe with everything...

    EDC = European Player
    BUT XEF = France.....
It should be XEC for Germany....

They suggested this also explains the Internet Service Test problems - as I need the XEC unit for the NET to work.

The shop was as surprised as I was + instead of giving me one they have in stock - have requested an XEC unit from Samsung to swap it in a few days...

The realy obvious clue was the manual was in French - I though it was Russian at a glance and maybe a grey market unit etc - but didn't even bother flicking thru it for the English section, because I had the ENG Version 2 manual off the net.

    will keep you posted //matt

Well I have to say, I never would have thought of that. I hope things work out better for you once you get the right machine for your region!

    Thanks for the update.

Some good news: Thanks to your notes - sorted out the network > seems a bit flaky though - can see files in shared folder - but when I want to conenct to the Net for updates have to change Internet connection Sharing to the DSL connection, not the LAN connection - when I do this, I can't see the files on the PC anymore..
ALSO: the inability for it to save the manual setting is a total joke - joke - joke -

As the old saying goes, I love how we are Samsung's BETA testers -

The really Bad news - DIVX is still stuffed > the shop where I bought it, 3 WEEKS AGO...don't even have a DIVX file to test, I'm taking some in next week >> hopeless >

These people are crimal bastards as far as I'm concerned - I have to run around like this - swapping machines, visiting the shop again + again - all because their product is screwed - what ever happen to customer service? full refund or they will [watch this space] /

-> Samsug also just told me on the phone it only offically supports DIVX 3.11, DIV 4.x + DIVX 5.x .....seems a bit wierd - I'm thinking of taking the player back and for the same money could buy 8 of the basic Samsung DVD/DIVX units, one of which I own, that play all latest DIVX without a problem.

Can you explain why this is a problem?

Am about to try to find DIVX 5 (circa 1962?) and re-encode some files...

    this is such rubbish///matt

Were you finally able to get a player that is right for your region?

No - the shop ordered a new unit - I am confident that it was a new unit - but it still has all the same codes as before. After Samsung said - that could be the problem - we told them the situation with the second unit + now they say even with the wrong codes it shouldn't matter - will call next week and get third answer I'm betting >

why the hell would someone qualify a unit for DIVX 5 - which came out in Feb '04 ???

thanks for your continued feedback -

I don't know WHY they would limit it to Divx 5, but I think that's consistent with the Panasonic players, and it is documented in the BD-P3600 user manual.

But you're still not able to get even basic networking to work, right?
