Thread: How to Get PC Streaming to Work on Samsung BD-P3600/BD-P4600

I have a D-link DIR-825 N band router. It is a simultaneous dual band and it has a seprate segment automatically for a guest account so that they don't have full access to your network, but they can easily get internet. That is the only one that is broadcasting and the only one the P3600 can find. I tried to connect manually to the regular side but I can never get there.
I am using WPA2 security. I selected that and put in the password. After the password it will never let me hit conect. It never gets to the connecting screen.

I have tried everything in this thread, including manual mode and typing in the IP address, and a few other things that I thought might work. At the end of that process I get the same thing, it will not let me hit connect and it never goes any further. It doesn't even try, that is what seems different from most people. The very first time I tried to get to the music I did get the invalid user name password routine.

    I am lost. I

I suspect it's a security issue. Can you get a hard-wired cable to your player and try that? At least as a test? If not, then it might be worth a call to Samsung to see how to use the feature with WPA2 security and a network that is not being broadcast. But if the router isn't broadcasting then you must be putting in the wireless network name manually too, yeah? And you're sure you're using the right name there?

Entering the IP address of the PC isn't going to help you if you can't get access to the secure network. Sounds like there is probably a firewall on the guest network segment that is preventing it from getting anywhere else on the network. I assume you've played around with the security settings on the router as well?

    General Note from Samsung

    Just a general comment peeps.

I have received an email from samsung support stating that "If you are experiencing issues with shared folders, please turn the
    simple file sharing feature off."

I will endeavour to try this at home this evening and let you all know the outcome.

    It works!!!

An update on my last post, turning of simple file sharing in windows has worked a treat.

Automatic discovery works pretty much everytime and I've streamed music and films easily.

The only thing that hasnt worked yet is keeping the username and password between power cycles but to be honest I didnt think that would anyway.

Hopefully we'll have a firmware release soon...

    Notes on using with Mac

So far I've been unsuccessful in getting PC Streaming to work with a Mac. But I've had some limited success and thought I'd share what I know so far.

    1. If I enable Samba (SMB) sharing, I can get to the point where the auto scan recognizes my computer. Good info on that is found here.

    2. I have a WIRED (ethernet) LAN. This setup at least gets around wireless config problems I've seen having to do with IPv6.

    3. I chose a username / password that was easy to enter on the dumb text entry system for the 3600. I used lowercase for both l/p.

    4. I can't get past the "incorrect user name or password" dialog. It was suggested that this has something to do with a firewall. In OS X, I have allowed all incoming connections. On my router, I allowed incoming traffic on ports 135-139 (TCP & UDP) and port 445 (TCP) as indicated here.

I am not sure that this should be necessary at all: opening those ports is for WAN. Shouldn't LAN connections be open in all cases? I'm using a Netgear ProSafe router.

I have tried various case combos of u / p.

I wondered if having brackets [ ] in folder share names was an issue, so I tried logging on with my normal user account which has some folders shared that do not have them -- but that was a no go too.

For comedy sake, I chatted with Samsung tech level 1 support who couldn't even understand that by "streaming" I was not talking about accessing netflix, and didn't get that I was talking about a Macintosh until I SCREAMED it at him -- then he said Macs are not supported.

I'd certainly like to hear any other thoughts, in particular what else I might try in my router config.

"Simple file sharing" is already disabled on my machine, and I was not able to reliably find my PC for PC streaming. I had to revert to manual setting. I'll add a note to the FAQ for people to try this but it did not work for me in Windows XP Professional.

My contacts at Samsung (who seem a bit better versed in this stuff than the support tech with whom you spoke) also confirm that the Mac platform is not supported for file sharing - only Windows XP and Windows Vista. So if you can get it to work, then more power to ya, but I doubt Samsung will be much help there.

Even "supported" platforms cause excessive grief so really, you're not missing much right now if you can't get it to find your files. Too bad AppleTV doesn't do Blu-ray.

Yes, I learned that. ;-) However, Mac OS X does support file sharing with Samba, so if were known what the precise details were to get it to work on windows (such as firewall port config, character limitations for user/pass/folder names, and so forth), it should be possible. Samsung is obviously too uninterested to be of much help. If your contacts can provide such details, it would be helpful. Thanks.

I am using Linux based NAS, so it also runs Samba. It works.
Limitation next, no spaces in computer name, no longer than 12 characters for computer and share name, maybe even both not sure.
Only manual connect works. Can't find share when auto mode.
So using Samba share should not be a problem if your Mac security allows it. Sorry can't help you with Mac.

The cheat sheet at the beginning of this thread is the sum total of what we've been able to get from Samsung and user contributions, so if that isn't enough to get you up and running, then I'm afraid we don't have much more to offer.

    Good luck,
