The features does have a lot of potential but I agree that it's not quite there yet.

Hopefully they can improve things with firmware upgrades.

Yep, reboot only, but there is no way to watch movie to the end. Even when you fast forward it still get locked-up.
Even if you watch multiple short ones, when whole watch time approaches about 1:20 it get locked up.
It could be Samsung hidden "Feature" to save our eyes and time Telling us, get out of couch go do something useful with your live and do not watch TV over 1 hour.

Well that's pretty nasty. I'll have to play around with it a bit and see if I can reproduce it before finalizing our review.

    Thanks,

Hello, i phoned to samsung but no solution found. So i try few things and i don't kwow why it's ok in auto mode.
I wiil try to explain, sorry i'm french so it's difficult for me to do a good tuto

First i rename my computer to have a very short name and password, it's easier to connect in manual, try one letter for username and password.
I rename also the share folder and one letter too. My share forlder is on C:

After right clic on the share folder and properties, clic on share tab and share button, i add the three group : computer name, invited and all user. Apply the change. After go to security tab and for all group modify to give full acces. Apply the change and try to connect in auto mode.

    Default Possible Solution

OK ... Here it goes. I've spent some time trying to get this thing to work and suucceeded, but it seems like a firmware update is in order.
First of all: The shared folder does not need to be directly under C: ... I use Vista and use the Public folder.
Second: I solved the "Incorrect user name or password" problem by opening a new user account and called it just "z" and used a password "z" to make the life easier. The new account is Standard User as opposed to Administrator or Guest account.
Third: I enabled a media sharing in Networking (not sure if it was turned off by default)
Hope that explains it, I watched the movies, pics and listened to music wwith no issues.

Problem: I can only connect through manual Network Search ... The player does not see my laptop (although it did before). It only sees my router. There was a time it saw both, router and laptop, but only once.
    I connect through Wi-Fi.

I tried everything listed on this forum and nothing works for me to see any file on my computer via my Samasung player. Shutting off firewall nothing works. I still get no matter what username and password incorrect. But I can watch programs from Netflix on my player fine.

If you've read the cheat sheet and it still won't find your PC, then you may need to use manual mode to find your PC.

On the PC where you have your media, go to Start... Run... then type "cmd" then hit "OK." When you get the command prompt, type in ipconfig/all and look for "IP address." Use this IP address in manual search mode and see if the player can find your PC. As long as you've set up your shares properly on the host PC then this method should work.

Try it out and let us know if that helps.

Have you tried using manual mode instead of automatic and entering the IP address of the PC that you want to share media from? If you do this, and specify the sharename, userid and password, it should work.

I have read through all of this thread. I still can not get it to work. I have the general network working fine, but it hooked up to the guest account on my router, which gives internet access but won't give it access to the computer shared files.

I can not get it to connect to the other access point. When I type in the password at the end of the process it will not accept the connect command. If I press the blue button or if I highlight the connect with the arrows and hit the enter key it will never go any further. Eventually it times out and I have to start over.

I am very displeased at this point with that part of the player, which is one of the reasons I went with this one, and will be letting Samsung know that!

If anyone else has had this problem, or I am missing something please let me know.

    Thank you.

So you're saying it does find the PC but doesn't let you connect? Are you using Auto or Manual mode? Did you try manual mode supplying the PC's IP address?

I agree that this feature is half-baked, and said so in my review:

Samsung BD-P3600 Blu-ray Player: Review by Chris Boylan on BigPictureBigSound

I'm not sure what a "guest account" on your router means. What router are you using and what kind of security have you set up? And are you WiFi or wired from the player to the router? If wireless, try implementing a WEP key and see if that helps. Note, using WEP security on the router will require that you provide the WEP key for all WiFi devices you want to connect to the router (laptops, etc.).

You can also get *really* secure by using Mac address security (the player has a Mac address which you can find in the Network set-up), but this is kind of a pain if you like to allow others (guests) to be able to use your router when they come over as you need to manually add the Mac addresses of any machine you want to grant access to.

Anyway... some details on how you have your router secured would help as well as answers to the other questions above.
