For the problem of the BluRay not finding any computer on the network when searching in automatic mode, you can try downloading the browstat utility from Microsoft (a copy is here: http://www.dynawell.com/download/res...0/browstat.zip). Then do the following from a command prompt:
    • browstat status => the output is complicated but the first line looks like this:
      Code:
      Status for domain WORKGROUP on transport \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{DCE0D1D1-C005-43B2-B3CD-49A6A419E415}
This line tells us the name of the domain/network (WORKGROUP in this example) and the name of the so-called transport (internal stuff).
    • browstat getmaster <transport> <domain> => You need to specificy your own transport and domain name. For instance, in the above example, you would do:
      Code:
      browstat elect \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{DCE0D1D1-C005-43B2-B3CD-49A6A419E415} WORKGROUP
This will show the name of the so-called "master browser" which is a almost-randomically-chosen computer in the network which is the "master" of it, and that it is the only computer that the BluRay will find in automatic mode. If it shows nothing, there is no master browser, and this is a problem that we need to fix
    • Now do: browstat elect <transport> <domain>. Again, use your own transport and domain name. This command forces an "election", that elects a new master browser. Using Windows, you have absolutely no control on what computer wins the election. Rule of thumb is that newer Windows versions win over older Windows versions, and Windows server versons win over Windows desktop versions.
      * At this point, browstat getmaster <transport> <domain> should show you the new master. If you re-run "search network, automatic mode" in bluray, it should show the new master.

The actual problem here is that Samsung BluRay shouldn't just show the browse master: it should just query it for the list of all computers in the network. But the firmware is lame... With Linux/MacOSX you're in better shape, because samba (the windows network emulation layer in Linux and Mac) lets you control which computer wins the election, so it's easy to force a single computer to always win the election and thus be the master browser and always be visible within the BluRay.

This is the only problem I know that affects BluRay and Windows. All the other problems are just simple misconfigurations (firewalls, etc.) that are well described in the first post of this thread.

Let me know if this helps you
    Hi guys,

i am new to this forum and have been following this thread with great interest as i have just bought the ht-bd8200 soundbar. Similar to what other users here have experienced, i am being stopped from using auto mode by the incorrect user name or password error when using auto mode.

do you happened to have a workaround for this as well. i am able to detect my pc using auto mode here though.

    tks

  2. Welcome :)

    Yong,

I suggest you read this forum from top to bottom.

Most problems came from firewall, share settings, network workgroup...

You will find info on all those matter in this forum.

    Samba

I am trying to get a Samsung BDP 3600 to stream from a Samba share running under Linux. The blue ray player can see the server but the username and password isn't accepted. Can anyone post the Samba modification referred to earlier in the thread?

    MaintainServerList=No

I reboot both computers and open Vistablue first and then Bouda
and Bouda was the Master !

I provoke a small wifi network cut and when the wifi return
Bouda was still the Master !!!
This was not the case before, cause VistaBlue always win the election
    after a network cut.

As I'm writing this post I had an unprovoked cut and when it reconnected
Bouda was still the Master !

So I think this is the good formula for the auto login with bd-p3600 !

    Code:
PC with your share folders and that you want to log to with auto login:
    With Regedit go to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\Parameters
Add those REG_SZ (string) keys or change the value if they exist:
    IsDomainMaster=Yes
    MaintainServerList=Auto

All other PC of your network add keys or change the value if they exist:
    IsDomainMaster=No
    MaintainServerList=No

NB: Make sure that you have the same workgroup on all PC.

Thanks again Giovanni, I'm sure many of us will now have the option
of auto login more easily !

Hi Donkichot, one question: what steps do you do on the bluray player with the remote to access the file list?

In my setup, I need to do these steps: first, I press the red A button to do a network serach; I select "auto"; the bluray searches and finds the computer; then I use the arrow keys to move over the computer and press ENTER: at this point, the blurary shows me the share list on the computer; I select the correct share, and then go into the Video section to browse the files.

I was wondering if the extra step of listing and selecting the share name is always required, or if it can be avoided somehow.

  5. BlueRay Step

    Hi Giovanni !

No, you cannot avoid any of the step you listed.

We must reselect the computer to go to another share folder...

Everything still work fine and Bouda stay as master !
The only thing left to solve is the 3600 poor wifi stability...

Since your back can you tell us what is
your firmware version and loader version
and country code, of your bd-p3600 ?
    Me it's 2.02/1.11/XAC/.
On an other forum those who have 1.06 as loader version have the
    best wifi stability...

If you've got comments on this procedure please post them here in the thread as this is a "living document."

Setting up your PC for Streaming Content with Samsung Blu-ray Disc Players:

Your Samsung BD player can access files on a Windows Vista or XP machine. The BD player does this by recognizing shared folders. With that said, set up shared folders with the files that you want your BD player to access. For help setting up shared folders, please see the Tips section below.

    PC Connection Instructions:

Connect your BD player to the network you want to access, either wired or wirelessly. Test the connection: Menu > Setup > Network Setup > Network Connection Test. Once the connection is tested and working, and you have your shared folders set up, you’re ready to use PC Connect.

PC Connect to Windows XP PC:
    1. Make sure the PC you’re connecting to is turned on.
    2. Press the menu button on the BD player. When in the menu, press the red ‘A’ button labeled network search. (If you don’t see the network search option, press the left arrow key on the remote). You’ll have the option to choose Auto or Manual setup. Select Auto by pressing Enter.
    3. Once the BD player is done searching, it will display the computers it has found on the network. Select the proper computer using the up and down buttons on the remote and press Enter.
    4. Provide userid and password you use to connect (log on) to this Windows PC
    5. If your PC is not found via the "Auto" search or your userid/password does not work, then you can switch over to Manual mode by clicking "Manual" (next to "Auto"). You will then need to know your PC's virtual IP address and share name.
      • From the Windows "Start" menu, hit "run" then type "cmd" to get to the command prompt
      • At the command prompt, type "ipconfig/all" to display your IP address, among other things.
      • Copy your IP address into the Manual Search "IP address" form on the Samsung
      • In Windows Explorer (Windows button + "E" key), select your root folder of your main hard drive (e.g., the "C" drive), right click on this and select "Sharing and Security" - make sure this folder is set to share and copy over the share name (e.g., "C$")
      • provide userid and password you use to log into this PC
    6. The BD player will then show you different shared folders on that PC. Select the proper folder by pressing Enter.
    7. You can now select Video, Music, or Photos by going to the corresponding menu label within the BD player. From there you’ll be able to access your photos under the Photo tab, music under the Music tab and video under the Video tab.

    Tips:
    • With windows XP, you may need to put your documents in the Shared Documents folder under My Computer.
    • If you create another folder within the Shared Documents, you must turn on file sharing within that folder. To do that, right click on the folder and select Sharing and Security. Under Network Sharing and Security, check the box that says Share this folder on the network. Press ok.
    • If you have security software running (firewall), you may need to turn it off, or change the permissions to allow other devices to access the PC.
    • If you are running XP Home, then connect to the PC as a non-admin user. Connecting as an admin may cause authentication errors.
    • According to a poster in this thread, Samsung support recommends that you disable "simple file sharing" in Windows XP. You can read more about how to do that here on the Microsoft support site. For some users (but not all), changing this setting allows the player to see networked PCs in "Auto" mode.
    • The only video files that can be played are Divx (divx and AVI file extensions).

PC Connect to Windows Vista PC:
    1. Make sure the PC you’re connecting to is turned on.
    2. Press the menu button on the BD player. When in the menu, press the red ‘A’ button labeled network search. You’ll have the option to choose Auto or Manual setup. Select Manual by pressing Enter.
    3. Enter the IP address of the PC you’re trying to access by using the number keys and left and right buttons on the remote. Once you have typed the correct IP address, press the Enter button. (To find your IP address with Vista, click the windows icon in the bottom left and in the search bar, type CMD and press Enter. Within the command prompt, type ipconfig and press enter. Your IP address is listed and usually starts with a 192 number.)
    4. After entering the IP address, you’ll be prompted to input the name of the shared folder you are trying to access. Do so and press the blue ‘D’ button. (This step is case sensitive). (TIP: Give you shared folder a short name to make you life easier)
    5. Next, you’ll need to input the user name of your PC. Do this and press the blue ‘D’ button. (This step is case sensitive).
    6. Last, you must enter the password for the computer and press the blue ‘D’ button. (This step is case sensitive).
    7. You can now select Video, Music, or Photos. From there you’ll be able to access the corresponding files.

    Tips:
    • With Windows Vista, your shared folders must be located in the root part of the C:\ drive.
    1. Simply right click the folder you want to share. Select the Share… option. In the new File Sharing window, press the Share button located in the bottom right, press continue, then press Done.
    2. Right click on the same folder and select Properties. Click on the Sharing tab. From there, select Advanced Sharing…, select continue. Click the Permissions button on the new menu that just opened. Cick Add…, then click Advanced… Now, click the Find Now button. Within the search results field, select Administrators, then press the OK button. Press OK again. Cick Add…, then click Advanced… Now, click the Find Now button. Within the search results field, select Everyone, then press the OK button. Press OK again.
    3. Now, highlight the User under the Group of user names and then click Remove. Next, press OK and press OK again.
    4. Last part: Press the Share… button. Choose Change sharing Permissions and then click the Share button and press continue, then press Done and lastly press the Close button. You’re good to go.
Does anyboby know how to make Samsung BD-P3600 to stream from NAS drive, I have a NAS drive D-LINK DNS-323, and the 3600 found it using auto search but would give an error message "No program found" when I select any of the folder Video/Music/Photo, as a matter of fact I do not even have folders with name like that it my NAS drive. When I used manual search using IP address of the NAS drive and entered the share drive name, user name and password then I can see all the sub-folders in the shared folders and can access certain DivX avi files in these folders, some other avi files such as the one I captured from my tape camcorder to the PC would not played (it played in Windows Media Center / Windows Media Player). Please help to show me how to make the Samsung recognized the NAS using auto search and will let me access share folder instead of using the manual all the time. Also is there any trick to convert those AVI clips from my camcorder to play in the Samsung?
    Thanks.

After having found the NAS in auto-mode, you need to highlight it and press OK. It will display a share list and you need to select the correct share. After this, you can enter the Video/Music/Photo menu and display contents.

Yes, it's really a bad user interface design.

Hello, if you know how to apply a patch to Samba, the patches for samba 2, 3 and 4 are here:

    Gmane Loom

Otherwise, you will have to wait for the patches to be integrated and eventually making it to your distribution.

    Mine is:

    S/W: BEv2.05_091015A_XEF
    Loader: LDv1.06_090917
    Region: B/2 (BD/DVD)

I always update the firmware as soon as it offers an upgrade.

    Well Giovanni,

I strongly suggest that you don't accept offer to update because you are
at the best loader version (1.06) after that we all experience poor wifi
stability, sound problem... and more bad things...

Wait until Samsung find the correction of their loader until that stay with
1.06 ! Those of us with 1.11 loader cant roll back to the best 1.06 loader...

Until that, you can stop that annoying offer to update message via
your router in the Website filter option. Add those value:

    203.254.223.77

    liveupdate.blurayplayer.samsung.com

And come here often because I will gladly post a message when Samsung
will find the solution to their firmware/loader problems...
