Yeah this is what makes the feature so unfriendly in my opinion. I'm reviewing the player now and have already spoken to the Samsung people about adding a "remember me" function. They don't know if/when they'll be adding this. But because I can only connect via the manual method, I too have to type in everything from scratch each time I want to re-connect, and this is frustrating at best.

Thanks. I'll add a note to this effect.

Is there a specific workgroup it looks in? does it only search certain IPs?
I've passed your feedback onto my Samsung contact and will let you know if I get a reply. I agree that a "remember this connection" feature would really help things and I've already requested that.

OK...I hope they add it soon. Till then, I have my shared folder, username and password all set to 'A'. That way I can get by with minimal key strokes.

I believe this is incorrect. As long as you share any folder (even if it is not under My Computers/Shared Documents) you should be able to access it from the player.

Default Samsung BD-P4600 not recognizing user/pass...still!!!

Hi Mr. Boylan!

I stumbled across this forum on the search for an answer, and I found it!....kind of.....

I just purchased a Samsung BD-P4600, and am having trouble with the username/password, I have tried EVERYTHING you have mentioned here, and it is still not recognized!....
My computer is found, connection is checked and working, but still, it does not recognize.
Any suggestions?

I'm not sure. I personally was only able to connect using direct IP and in this case *everything* was visible even sub-folders that were not explicitly shared. I'm going to leave this as is for now, but if my Samsung buddy re-visits the thread, I'm sure we can edit it.

The only thing I would say is make sure the userid you are using is a non-admin user (if running XP Home). Have you tried that? As an admin you can create a new user on the machine that does not have administrative rights and try that for the connection. DrCoolz mentioned that this worked for him whereas an administrator user failed the authentication step.

THANK YOU!!!!

I have been hunting all over the place for this information.

I had been eyeballing the 1600 for a few weeks and decided to buy it. I have the same complaints as a lot of people where the USB will not read videos and the wifi is via samsung dongle. I have been reading about the 3600 and I am thinking about exchanging the 1600 and going for it. I do have a few questions for your contact.

1. Does the player support using linux? I HATE microsoft and have shares and what not setup with linux and sharing folders to my brothers system that is running windows.

2. Will the USB port on the system play videos? I have read mixed reports about the playback on the USB. If it does not read linux very well I do not mind having to transfer my videos to a usb if needed.

I know that a lot of people buy the blu ray players for the functionality of the disc itself. I look at features. I really like the idea that you can connect the players to netflix and have it work out great. I also like the fact that you can stream video content off your computer. I have backed up a lot of videos on my computer and being able to watch them on tv through the player would be perfect. (Plus it would save me the 800 bucks of a media PC that has a blu ray drive).

Hi. I've played back a few DivX and Xvid videos both via the USB port of the BD-P3600 and via PC streaming. So far, no problems at all playing back videos from the USB drive. The PC streaming feature for me has been a bit flaky, not 100% reliable. And without the "remember me" feature to remember my credentials next time I connect, I don't find it particularly useful.

Linux and Mac platforms are not supported. Only Windows XP and Windows Vista, currently. Netflix online streaming works very well on this player.

Hope that helps.
