    Ahhhhhhhh the codecs nigthmare...
The only explication that with the same software and the same setting
we dont have the same result is the codecs nightmare...
You see I have tried so many software that I have 100 of codecs and
sometimes it's the software who decide witch it will use and sometime
    it's windows...

I know one codecs software who have almost all codecs needed for today video it's ffdshow.
I suggest you download it and intall it and do all the test again...
    I know it's not funny...
But I dont have any other solution
    for you...

So I have put that software in my share video site so you can download and intall it (if you want of corse).
    the file name is:
    ffdshow_rev2754_20090310_clsid.exe
It's exactly the same version that is on my share pc for the 3600.

Reboot your pc after the installation.

In all cases PQ was good - but if you remember the opening to Wall-E there is a song about "Barnaby" - Well it sounds like the singer has larangytis

  2. I have done some research and it's seem that your problem
may come from the DTS audio in your source file.

You need plugins for a DTS decoder.

But first I need to know the full version of your avidemux 2.5.
( In avidemux go to help+About Avidemux)

    Is it :
    Avidemux 2.5.1 (r5249)
    or
    Avidemux 2.5.0 (r4871)

    ???

  3. I have find a file with dts audio and test it with Avidenux
    2.5.1 and 2.4.4.
Both give me good pq but bad audio or sometime no audio.

In the avidemux site I saw a post in a forum that said that dts was not
    supported by avidemux.

It's strange because according to the documentation of avidemux 2.5.1 this
version should have what it take to decode DTS audio...

The post said that you have to download add-on for it to work.
So I downloaded the add-on for avidemux 2.4 and 2.5 and install them and
redo the test (with MPEG-4-avc(x264) video codec and AC3(lavc) audio codec).
Avidemux 2.5.1 failed but 2.4.4 did very good... !

So I suggest you download Avidemux 2.4.4 and install it.
(not in the same folder of your avidemux 2.5.1)
You can have both version on your pc.

You will find in the link below all you need to installl 2.4.4 and the
    add-on.
I also put the source file with dts and the one I made with av 2.4.4+add-on
so you could test it on the samsung 3600 before you install the av 2.4.4.

    Here is the files description:

    avidemux_2.4.4_win32.exe (software)

Gataca2-4-4 add-on.mkv (the file I convert with 2.4.4 with the
    add-on AC3(lavc) audio codec)

    Gattaca.1997.720p.HDTV.DTS.x264-ESiR.sample.mkv ( the source
    file with dts audio)

    ADD-ON files:
(copy those 3 files in the same folder of your install av 2.4.4. Make sure
av 2.4.4 is close before you copy the files
they should be in the same folder of the exe file of the avidemux
    (avidemux2_qt4.exe)

    Build_Info.txt
    libamrnb-2.dll
    libdts.dll

    To check they’re installed correctly:
Avidemux 2.4.4: Check the Help -> Built-in Support window in Avidemux.
In the list, Ammb and libdca should have the check box selected.

Let me know the result of your test.

    Don

    Result = 100%

Wall-E and his musicaql backup are back to their finest !

Plus Gattaca (Your sample) is so awesome I'm going to track down the full MKV.

Note - Your idea of including a before and after of Gattaca was great - As soon as I realised I had emulated your conversion I had the confidence to tackle the hitherto "Untamed" Wall-E.

Samsung owe you big time - Hope they at least give you a nice new TV

  5. Cool !!!

    I'm glad

I'm also glad that it work's fine with the 2.04 firmware.
But I'm not ready yet to update, I think I will stay to 2.02
for sometime cause everything is working well with all my setup.
And also my Avidemux mkv formula work's very well
with the 2.02 firmware and give me spectacular result with
    my video files !!!

I have disable the annoying message of the "new firmware is available"
    when I open the 3600.

About Samsung giving me a TV...
Well if they accidently visit this forum...
    I have a 42 inches TV
so a 47 or 50 inches LED TV would be... nice....
    MEGA NICE...

I'm new to this forum and just purchased a Samsung BD-P3600 this week. Got it on sale at my local Best Buy ($299). I chose this model especially for it's computer streaming & divx playing capability. I use Mac OS X at home, so I checked the manual beforehand to look for Mac-specific instructions, but found none. Still, I figured it should work with the built-in SMB file sharing. And I was right!

I haven't read all the messages in this thread, I stumbled upon this forum today as I was searching for information on how to get the AUTO Network Search to work. You see, it's no problem getting connected to a shared folder under Mac OS X using the MANUAL connect function. I'm using a PPC/G4 Mac running Mac OS X 10.5. I'm using the Ethernet port with my home network (glad I finally got to use the RJ45 outlet I installed behind my TV years ago). I just enabled "File Sharing" in Mac OS X's "Sharing" Preference pane, and added my video subfolder to the sharing list with SMB access enabled for my user account.
Under Mac OS 10.4 (and earlier) I think you'd just use the "Windows Sharing" option similarly.

Anyway, it worked no problem. I just have to choose MANUAL connect on my P3600, and enter the Mac's IP#, shared subfolder name, username, & password. I've had no problem playing divx files, mp3s, or viewing jpegs. I see from this forum the new firmware also supports mp4 or mkv video. I'll have to give that a try tonight.

I'm running the current firmware (2.02 I think) since it automatically upgraded via the internet as soon as I turned it on for the first time. Sounds like it added a lot of new functionality, and I had no problems with the upgrade.

Though I would like to get the AUTO Network Search function to work, because the 3600 disconnects the computer after playing a DVD or watching a Netfix movie, etc. It does retain the info, so it only requires a few addition blue button presses to re-connect to the computer, but if it could connect automatically, that would be best.

But it sounds like the AUTO connect function doesn't work well (or work at all?). I did enable guess access to File Sharing. So if I perform an AUTO connect, it does display my Mac's name (instead of the manually entered IP#). But I cannot access any of the public folders and it doesn't accept the user/pass combination that I works when I choose MANUAL. So I'm wondering if there's a specific (hard-coded) directory name that it's looking to connect to. I don't know anything about NT/Vista's "simple" file sharing... but I'm wondering if it creates a specific share name (like "PUBLIC" or whatever) that the 3600 is automatically expecting.

So far, I really like my BD-P3600. Netflix movies stream in excellent quality and my divx movies play great! I've never had any use for mkv files, but I will have to look out for some.

By the way, has anyone found updated documentation for the BD-P3600?
I see that Samsung posted a user manual 2.0 for the P1600 that mentions the new YouTube & Blockbuster support, but the P3600 documentation is still only 1.0 on Samsung's site. Maybe they have more specific PC Streaming info in their new user manual.
New to this forum so hello everyone. Lots of great info here!

I was wondering if anyone (or the above poster) has any updates concerning getting a Mac to work with PC Streaming on the BD-P3600. I know its technically unsupported, but it seems a few of you have been able to get it to work with OSX 10.5. However, I am running 10.4 (Tiger) and the File Sharing setup prefs does not have an option to add specific folders or enable SMB sharing.
AFAIK, you can merely turn file sharing on and off. I have still tried to use the manual setup feature regardless, and it always ends with " Unable to find a PC ".

Has anyone found any workarounds for this? Specifically using OS 10.4.x on a Mac? Currently, I use an Airport Express as part of a multi-network setup thru a Belkin Router. All works well for Netflix Streaming, etc. Its just not seeing my Powerbook as an available PC.
Again, I know its not supported via Samsung, but maybe someone has figured something out?

    Thanks in advance!

Ok, please advise, no method seems to work for me

I have tried both "Auto" and "Manual".

When trying "Auto", I can get as far as having an entry for my pc (though I am never asked, nor given the option to enter an ID and password).

"Marks-PC" is displayed with the options of "Video", "Audio", "Pictures" and "Setup".

That is as far as "Auto" will take me. There are no other folders or files which display underneath these options (except for setup, of course). I have followed the posted instructions for Vista set up of a shared folder. I have tried new shared folders as well as the Public folder. I get the error message of "No Program Found" when trying to navigate through the folders. For instance Marks-pc --> Photo --> No Program is Found

When trying "Manual", I enter the IP/Folder/username/pw and only end up with the message "Cannot Find Shared PC".

This is pretty annoying. Anyone have any suggestions?

Also, when typing in the folder under manual mode, is it just the name of the folder or are you supposed to type in the full path?

I think this is the most terrible delivery of any feature on any product... ever. Whoever designed this one needs to be beat.

The rest of the features are nice though.

    Thanks.

  9. Sharing pc.

Mark just to be sure did you select "Marks-PC" with the remote and press enter on the remote (I think you did but just wanted to be sure) ?
Because if you did not it does exactly what you describe: "No Program Found" .

If Auto does not work when you select your share-pc with the remote, I think you should forget it for now since almost no body make it work. It only work with a wired connexion for me now. So I say concentrate on the manual mode.

For the folder it's just the name (case sensitive) of the folder not the path.

Are you wired or wifi with the 3600 ?
What are your firmware version ?
    Windows Vista or xp ?
Did it work with files on usb-key or usb-drive ?

Did you read this forum from top to bottom ? I know it's a big one but there alot of use-full info in it.

Dont give up cause when it works it's pretty cool !

Under Mac OS 10.4, SMB File Sharing was just called "Windows Sharing". So you have that capability, you just don't realize it. Also, Mac OS X 10.4 (and earlier) users should be able to use the donationware program Sharepoints in order to specify SMB shared folders:

    HornWare: SharePoints

Download it and give it a try. I used to use it all the time prior to upgrading to Leopard, and it works great. Though i haven't specifically tested it in this situation. But it simply adds the functionality to share out folders other than the default PUBLIC folder. All that capability exists in all versions of Mac OS X, it's just that Apple's Sharing Preference pane doesn't have an interface for it prior to 10.5, so Sharepoints gives you access to that capability.

Also, I recently upgraded to BD-P3600 firmware 2.0.4, no significant change in my experience using PC streaming. AUTO still doesn't work for me at all. And I haven't been able to get any responses from Samsung (I thought there were Samsung reps monitoring this forum, I've tried to contact them but gotten no response). So, I really love the PC streaming feature on this player, but it is a harder to get it to work than it should be.

Sure would be nice if they gave even the remotest consideration for operating systems other than those from Microsoft. Widen your horizon's Samsung support!
