Why optical for audio? Does your receiver not support HDMI audio decoding or multi-channel analog inputs? Optical is OK but won't get you the full quality of multi-channel PCM and the lossless codecs (DTS-HD, Dolby TrueHD), which you will get if you use HDMI or multi-channel analog for the sound.

Tried to use wireless for Netflix and could not get a connection.
What kind of error? Couldn't find the network or something different?

Hardwired to the Verizon Router (FIOS) and now I get on-again off-again connection.

When it is connected I get an error message that I need to update my Proxy info when I try to access Netflix.

I am not sure what the Port and User and Password information to use.

So far very frustrated with this unit.

DVDs seem to work fine, but the remote does not recognize my TV (Pioneer Plasma) and has a very short range.

I would really like to be able to use Netfix, any suggestions?

    Thx.....Bill
What network settings do you have currently in your player's network set-up? DHCP = ON and DNS = AUTO? Have you tried hard-coding the IP address and Domain Name Servers? Here's a thread on how to determine that information (I wrote this for the Panasonic players, but the same concept applies). See if that helps get a more reliable connection (from step 4 on):

Let us know if this helps.

Samsung BD1600 won't pass ping test

A week ago i bought a package deal for a Samsung HD 640 tv that included a Samsung BDP-1600. I spent $79 to buy the Samsung wireless adapter (the only one that's supposed to work). I set up everything but for the most part it won't pass the network ping test.

It connected a few times then the next time I turned it on it could not connect. Exchanged it and had the same problem, on again off again connections. Bought a Netgear device the hooks up to an ethernet connection & a powerplug and then runs the signal through the wiring so it's hard wired to the Blu Ray player. It still connects erratically but for the most part not at all.

I have spoken to Samsung many times who claims it's an internet problem, Verizon won't offer any support at all. No one can offer any solutions! The BD can pick up the access point and pass the IP & MAC test but not the Ping test. What is interesting to me is that if I type in "can't pass ping test" then many posts on the internet pop up and ALL of them are about Samsung not LG, Panasonic, Sony etc. I am at a loss so any suggestions?

Does anybody actually answer these posts?

Over a month ago I posted the question below but there was never a response. Is this website still active? Have had many intermittent problems with the internet connection for the Samsung player. Best Buy, Samsung & Cable Company constantly ran me around in circles or simply passed the buck. I am pretty sure it's a systemic problem with Samsung because I tried different players with similar problems. They should try to iron out problems before bringing these products to market.

If anyone had any suggestions on your problem, I'm sure they would have made them. As with any forum, participation is strictly on a volunteer basis. If you can't get a good answer about why it's failing the ping test from Samsung, then I'd suggest returning the player and going with another brand. You can also try avsforum as there is a lot more traffic there.

    No Wifi Possible at all

After reading about many of these issues, I'm ready to box this thing up and bring it back to Best Buy (I bought it yesterday).

After telling the unit to search for wifi networks, I can see my wireless network. I enter the password; it thinks for several minutes (literally!) then tells me it's invalid. My WEP password is all lowercase, I use it ever time my laptop re-starts, so I know what my password is ;-) I did try uppercase just for giggles and no dice with it, either.

The router in my case is a Dlink WBR-1310. I have two desktops, a laptop, a Mac and two iPhones that can log into it and use it just fine. FWIW, I am of the mind that Samsung's suggestion to change routers is unacceptable.

When you say password, you mean the WEP hex key right? All characters are between the number 0 and the letter F? This is what we used to connect with our review sample to a Linksys router and had no problems. You should be able to find the WEP key in your router's admin panel.

If this is what you're using and it can't connect then I'm sorry but I don't have any other suggestions except trying another brand player like maybe the LG BD390 which has built-in 802.11g and 802.11n support.

Thanks, Chris. Actually, it is WPA, but I moved my router so I could connect with a cable. I figured this would be a more reliable link for downloading, etc., anyway.
Once I put it into this hard-wired state, everything started working as it should. I'm still mystified as to why it wouldn't accept the passphrase, but I'm not going to waste any more energy on it as it's working
BTW updated the firmware to 2.05, I believe it was (wife has turned off player in favor of TV for now) and so far it seems to be working okay. I'll try discs, etc later to make sure.
